Isn't it possible these days to pick a so called 'mature' aged rookie. (No, I'm not thinking of a certain from former West Coast midfield and captain). However, if such a mature aged rookie is possible, someone in the ilk of a David Spriggs, (who now plays and apparently stars in the VFL), might be a consideration.

However great a stalwart of the club Fosdike as been, the decison to keep him on the list, along with Barry and Crouch, did not seem to make sense back in the October. I felt at the time that keeping all three seemed to be in line with keeping one too many passengers for 2009, and that the emotional sentiment of not wanting to drop a Swans Premiership hero was obvious. Afterall, all three players had their moments of glory during the 2005 September campaign: Fosdike-Swans BOG for the GF, Barry-THE mark, Crouch-offically the best Sydney player for that finals series.

Crouch and Fosdike were on contract so delisting them wasn't just as straightforward as waving them goodbye, even if the club wanted to. There would be salary cap implications.

Regardless of what happens with Fozzys knee he must remain on our list.In his prime he has been a very good team player.I hope he can come back.

Perhaps the fozzie bear has been knee capped by members of our young 'chunk' squad, to ensure they retain their senior spots for the 09 season?

Hope he can come back. But if he can't, well I'd sure like to see Cousins out there in his place....

The mature-aged rookie rule (24yoa +, I think no more than one or maybe two of them on yr list) is restricted to those who haven't played a senior AFL game. So Spriggs wouldn't qualify. (As far as I can tell, international rookies aren't restricted by age-- not that many of them are likely to have played a senior AFL game before!)

Very sad if he can't continue. Hero in 2005, still a couple good years left in him I would imagine. Footy can be cruel, but then so can the press, so I figure to wait and see.

Can we stop this silly talk of Fosdike as THE best Swan in 2005 GF....yes he was THE highest possession winner (getter!) and was in the BEST lists....but Buchanan was the undisputed best player for the Swans, and (most people's) best player on the field....Judd, 29 possessions, 12 clearances.....2 effective kicks, sheesh!

It's not undisputed, because many, me included, think that either Fosdike or LRT should have had the Norm Smith.

I think you'll find Roos nominated Fosdike as our best so he clearly disputes your assessment.

I'll dispute it, so I guess it's not undisputed. I thought that Fosdike was the best on ground in the 2005 GF and should have been given the Norm Smith.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

RWO thought he was the 3rd best Swan on the ground.
