They could easily be onfield players too, depending on who we are playing and the need for match ups eg Buchanan could start on the 1/2 forward line,Bolton in the centre etc. Doing this exercise makes me realise the depth we seem to have this year!Comment

Back lines: Richards: Barry : Bolton
Mattner LRT Kenelly
Centre : Shaw Bird Malceski
Forwards: OKeefe Hall Vespa
Beven Goodes Moore
1st Ruck
Jolly
Kirk
McVeigh
Interchange
Pyke
Bolton
Buchanan
Playfair
This team has youth and experience, awesome backline, dangerous forward line and tough relentless pacy centre line
MOL could come back from injury and we could drop Moore or who ever is not performing.
NB No Ablett,Crouch ,Cheese, Currie etc ..just no places yet
Currie for mine to take over as no. 2 ruck. I'd like to think Pyke has made that much progress, but doubt it.
It's probably a tossup between Playfair and Reg to fill in for MOL.
Midfield is the big dilemma. Shaw's arrival - and despite Fossie's retirement - means pretty fierce competition for spots.
I can't see Roos dropping Noggie and Jack. But one of them and/or Shaw, Bird(!), Bevan(!), Vespa(!), B1(!) or Monty(!), etc. will have to miss out.
You'd have to expect at least a couple of 2008 regulars to miss out - more if Roos and Longmire decide to introduce fresh faces as they did last year. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

This is my best 22 for 2009 ... let's hope they all stay fit...
Backs
Mattner Bolton Barry
Half Backs
Kennelly Richards Shaw
Centre
McVeigh Bolton Malceski
Centre Half Forwards
O'Keefe Goodes Buchanan
Forwards
O'Loghlin Hall Jack
Rucks
Jolly Kirk
Rover
Bird
Interchange
Bevan Barlow Veszpremi (LRT or Currie as ruck)
Fosdike, Grundy, Playfair Vespremi all unlucky ... crouch is gone in my books but you never know...
On paper our weakest spot is the second ruckman. I think LRT is also in real trouble this year unless he can re-invent himslf in the ruck. There is no spoonComment

Jack in my team
I think that Jack probably has to start in the top 22.He has done nothing to deserve missing out.He is now one of many players that simply cannot afford to play a bad game as so many are breathing down his neck. I put him in,Vespa out ,for no reason other than there are no spaces left! Who would wanna be a selector!Comment

With so many older players it will be unlikely that they will be able to go a whole year uninjured.Older bodies simply take longer to repair themselves and these players will find this out. There are bound to be big opportunities, Kenelly's knees are wobbly, not just his recently repaired shoulder, and the heriocs of the back line have taken a toll on their bodies. It will come down to who grabs the chance and plays at the next level like a champion when they get the chance. It will come down to having the courage to pick a team on form not reputation!
Will the policy of playing the old guard carrying injuries persist? surely we have enough depth now to give an injured player a rest. I thought that playing injured players last year cost us a couple of games and maybe 4th spot. It is a policy that nearly always backfires on you.Comment

Little point picking our exact 22 now, but: if we get more than a small handful of injuries to the best 22 once they are settled, we are absolutely rooted.
A club that has (along with Brisbane) the most generous list allowance in the AFL, will now in practical terms be entering the 2009 season with probably the shortest playing roster of any team in the competition. Bear in mind that 2 of the 3 new 2008 draftees on the senior list won't even be living in Sydney.
The depth is just not there to soak up losses in any category except for small midfielders. In my opinion talk of the likes of Pyke or Orreal making any substantial contribution on-field for the firsts in 2009, is science fiction. If Murphy is picked, he will inevitably do a lot of things that remind us of LRT circa early '05 (and yes, he did look more unco and occasionally embarrassing then that he ever did in '08).
But hey, we saved money.Comment

ouch!
Well we now have no fullforward,no fullback, one less running midfield and one less rebounding 1/2 back. This should be the year of picking a form side. The gladiators who won it for us in 2005 have had their cemented places and it will be the new Swans that take us forward.
My team now
Richards Bolton Mattner
Malceski LRT Shaw
Bird Kirk Jack
Okeefe Hall Vespa
Moore Goodes Bevan
Jolly
Bolton
Mc Veigh
Interchange: Pyke or Currie
Playfair
Buchanan
White or Reg GrundyComment

Saw them train the other day and the 2nd ruck is going to be hotly contested between Currie and White I think.
Pyke is a tank, but his kicking simply isn't there yet from the little I have seen. I know Blake at the Cats doesn't kick much either, but I'm not sure if Pyke's decision making will be there either, but I am looking forward to watching him develop.
You don't think Bevan is thereabouts?Comment
