Daryn Cresswell reappears - at Manly-Warringah

Manly Warringah Wolves have appointed former AFL player Daryn Cresswell as playing coach for the 2009 season.

The 37 year old former Sydney Swan champion (Bob Skilton Medallist & Team of the Century member) played 244 games over his illustrious career, retiring in 2003. He was also appointed Assistant Coach for AFL clubs Geelong and Brisbane in recent years and as such will no doubt be a standout playing coach in the AFL Sydney Division One competition.

"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

Sounds like he's shaping up to be the coach for the West Sydney team.

Not knocking the SFL, but what has gone wrong with Cressa?

Was seriously considered to be a strong senior AFL coach prospect and he seems to have imploded after chartering a good course with some assistant work at AFL level, then a senior job at top teir state level.

Imploded was the word. Problem was to whom he was giving his greatest assistance.

There was a well documented incident that occured at the time he was touted for the St Kilda role, then from as much as I can gather (and this is purely from reading gossip) he essentially did a runner from the Tassie Devils gig.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Possible slanderous issues, we don't wish to deal with outside of RWO

In other words we don't want any risk of a letter from a legal team.
