Very pleasing result for the Swans. To kick 22 goals against the reigning premier and knocking them off is a promising sign for the season ahead.

If any of you missed the game, or want to re-live the excitement, my photo gallery from the game is now online. Enjoy!!!

It was a great performance. Enjoy your walk from Homebush to the SCG in a couple of weeks time.

(Did anyone see Schnieder's snap in the last quarter ... his eyes were on the ground - a few more of those per year might have kept him in the R&W!!) Tonight's win, however, perhaps has made me a little less cynical ... till next week. Bloody brilliant.
Totally agree Annie H. I think in our universal despair about the Round 1 loss against St Kilda, no one really appreciated how good the Saints were. Their win against Adelaide in foreign territory at Football Park, was by a comfortable margin, and against a team who had the week before had beaten fancies Collingwood at the MCG.

Also, Sydney only lost to St Kilda by two and half goals. Further, the Swans rarely have round one away wins, (with just an 18% win-loss record in the past 20 years or so).

Lmao, anyone visited the Hawthorn board on BF? You have to read H2F's thread, such a giant wank! Read through the game thread, too, you wont regret it.

Yeah great performance overall, Jolly was outstanding.
Hall was great, bit of a shame o keefe had a quiet game.
I thought kirk was great in shutting down mitchell, and his leadership skills was excellent as usual.

Rhyce shaw looks very agile and quick, looks like hes fitting in quite well, the new boy meridith shows alot of promise.
Goodes had an overdue good game..

great performance overall.. stick that in your pipe and smoke it Hawthorn

Sounds like a quality performance from the boys. I thought we didn't have a shot, but sounds like we stood up even if Hawthorn were weakened. Anybody know where I can get a torrent of the game/be able to provide one as I managed to keep up with score updates during the day but am here in Munich and can't get access to highlights or anything on the net and would really like to watch the match!

[Btw, was the commentary extremely boring tonight??? It sounded like a lame effort from some highlights I've seen. If it was Carlton or Richmond they'd be frothing all over it - wtf is wrong with our boys..PATHETIC![/QUOTE]

Stephen Quartermain is a Hawthorn supporter and there was one goal in particular that we kicked in the third quarter where his lack of enthusiasm showed his bias. It was as bad as Eddie McGuire's commentary efforts during a Collingwood loss! Makes you appreciate Anthony Hudson more. Hudson's a Geelong supporter but his call of Nick Davis' heroics in the 2005 semi final was magnificent.

Great win, reminds me of 2003 when we beat Brisbane against expectations.

At the ground I was so impressed by Jolly and White winning virtually every tap. Looking at the stats it is so impressive, 4 goals between them, Jolly took 3 or so contested marks (team total 15), White had 12 disposals, Jolly 20 something. Even with inexperienced opponents, I can't remember the last time we had such a good ruck combination (ok maybe everitt and jolly against Richmond in 2007 but whatever).

I loved LRT's duck and weave under two Hawks. Goodes' mark was magic. I was so relaxed, not worried about the result, not expecting to win just enjoying it. Then when we kept in touch during the 2nd quarter you started to have thoughts (quickly supressed) that we might win. Then to kick 8 goals in the premiership quarter... wow.

You also don't lose too many games kicking 14 goals 4 behinds after half time. As my friend said as well, when you kick to the goal square things start to happen. I don't know if this was a deliberate strategy or just something that happens, but it was so refreshing to see long kicks to the goal square rather than kicks to a leading player deep in the pocket or kicks to BBBH when 3 players are on him.

I also can't recall ever getting so many free kicks in the forward 50 - perhaps partly some inexperienced defenders (?) but also a product of getting it in quick and to the goal square.

Also whilst Hawthorn had some players out, they did have Franklin, Roughhead, Rioli, Williams, Hodge, Mitchell, Bateman and to me that seems to be a list of their best players. I think we would have beaten them at their full strength on last nights intensity.

Hawthorn were dreadful, but the Swans were great. Without thinking to much about it, that was the best I have sen them play for a long time. Great debut to Meredith also.

Good win. We were very fortunate that they were missing so many players, particularly in certain positions, but at least did well enough to exploit that.

I think the skills of younger players like Moore, Jack and Bird are really questionable, but there's no doubting their committment.

We did very well to lock down their key forwards, though small forwards are a concern. Bevan and Crouch were well and truly beaten, and if Hawthorn had more control of the game, Rioli and Stokes could have kicked plenty.

They were certainly the low lights for the night. Every time you saw Bevan he was about 5 metres behind his opponent, who was making the play across half forward. The sooner these two are in the twos the better.

I can't agree with you on the youngsters. Moore had 7 I50s, Jack kept Bateman relatively quiet and Bird is a very classy distributor, even wearing the traditional Swans bandage round the head (why don't they have red and white bandages?).
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
