Hall and his pleas for those frees

How many times per game do you notice Hall mid contest throw his arms wide calling for a free that he never gets.

It's been happening for ages and I've noticed it more and more lately - twice against the Hawks.

If he forgets about that and keeps playing for the ball, not only will he get more frees, where he doesn't, his hard style of play will often mean he gets the ball anyway.

It doesn't look like they're working on this aspect of the game.

Nope - that is a major generalisation. Hall has a particular liking for it.

That's just Baz demonstrating that he's being crucified.

He also takes a long time to get rid of the ball.

But that's my point. It's now crystal clear that is has no effect on the umpires, which means that he's taking himself out of an active contest.

At least he's not face first in the dirt whilst he's doing it.

Rioli got away with it on Sat nite. Thru the hands back as he ran into an open goal, as a hand touched him, git the free, got the goal. Replay showed very little contact.

In your opinion. I've been watching footy at all levels for over 40 years. All players do it. Some more than others.

Well then, if I had have known you've been watching footy for over 40 years I would never have started the thread.

Doesn't mean anything. Saying 'they all do it' is a generalisation. I've been reading for 30 years and know what a generalisation is when I see it.

I agree with Danzar - I've seen this bloke who plays for the Balmain Dockers u18's, I think his name is Geoff, or Cliff - anyhow, he doesn't do it. I remember commenting to this bloke, whose name escapes me - Tim or Geoff or Cliff, and we both said 'he doesn't seem to do that hands thing like Barry Hall does'. And then they lost.

Full forwards love doing it - Franklin and Riewoldt are just as bad as Bazza.

There are plenty of players in our team that don't throw their arms out wide looking for a free. In fact, Hall is the only one I can think of. For instance, I've never seen Craig Bolton do it.

Yup! Look, I'm not saying that only Hall does it - at least that's obvious to most on this thread. I'm saying he has a particular liking for it and he does it in a way that takes him out of the contest. He throws his arms wide, stops, looks at the ump, realises he's not getting a free, then runs back into the contest by which time it's too late AND he's too frustrated.

They need to work on that.

I've been eating bananas since I was kid but I still don't know how to grow a banana tree.

Especially Hall, He's got it bad.
