Players out of contract in 2010

Theres a thread over at Bigfooty about Collingwood draftee Dayne Beams knocking back a three year contract so that he would be out of contract in 2010 - in time for GC17 to offer him a deal.

With the whole GC17 being allowed to poach one uncontracted player from each team, it got me wondering: Which Swans players have contracts ending in 2010?

I'm really hoping Jesse White isn't one of them!
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I'm very worried about White. He's young and has a lot of potential, could see the dollar signs and a chance to play with the new glamour glub and bounce.

Fingers crossed he's loyal and signs with us.

        Are you on happy pills?

There is no one in the Swans that would be wanted by GC 17. No one.

If there is, give us a top 10 pick and trade away!!!!!

          He's a Queenslander...I'd say he's gone - 2010.

So they'd be interested in a dime a dozen type like Beams, but not a KPP like White? They wouldn't take McVeigh if they could? Jolly? Malceski etc. Ok mate......

I think Beams just wants to have a look, and he won't be the only player to do it either. For that week Beams can see what, if anything, GC17 want to pay him and if Collingwood can beat it he'll stay put. It'll be a mini-bidding war and to be honest players who are out of contract in 2010 would be mad not to entertain the idea of enticing more money out of the clubs. While we all like to believe Club Loyalty exists (and some players certainly are) there is equally an amount of players who have the understandable opinion of wanting to make a lot of cash, regardless of who they play for.

With Hall, Mickey O and Leo Barry likely to retire, the Swans will have plenty of room under their salary cap at the end of the year. They will also be one of the most aggressive recruiters themselves. There's not much chance of required Swans players being recruited.

Liam Pickering, who is a main player in player management, said on Fox Teams last night that managers have suggested to just about all their charges not to sign on past the 2 years they get with a normal draftee contract until it becomes clearer what the situation will be come the end of 2010.

It appears that clubs are starting to pressure the guys who were drafted in the last draft to sign up for a 3rd year now, so as to avoid being out of contract at the end of 2010.

Normally clubs wouldn't even entertain the idea of shoring up longer deals, but forsee the problem.

                    Interesting times.

Obviously they must think that Gold Coast is much more of a threat Western Sydney as all those signing up for a longer contract would then become available for that club when they enter.

I don't believe there is a date set in concrete for Western Sydney, as there is with GC.

No doubt a similar scenario will play out when a solid date is set.

Most draft picks in last years draft would hav been given 2 year contracts so that would make you think Johnston, Heath, Hanneberry and Gilchrist would all be coming out of contract at the end of next season. After the early signs i wouldnt want to loose Johnston

Surely the spirit of the whole scheme would be not to allow the poaching of recently drafted players. It would make a mockery of the whole draft system of the past few years.

Is White not in his second year or is it his third. If so if he doesn't sign on at the end of this season where does he go. Maybe they have already signed him on an extended contract. As I understand, it is one uncontracted player from each club at the end of 2010.

... if GC17 want them and the player accepts.
