Good response from the reserves based on last weeks performance. Good to see Micky'O scored and he was involved in a few of the goals so good to see. Def to start against Fremantle next week IMO.
Good to see the injured players got through the game. What is it though with foot injuries. I was ready somewhere recently that boots are now paper thin and super light, but is that detrimental to the support for the foot. There just seems to be so many players going out with foot injuries.
Thanks ugg et al for the updates. Sounds as if the twos are aiming to take the ones' title as heart attack kings. Good news on Laidlaw and MickeyO. How did Johnston finish? And will someone give us one of those excellent reports?
Currie missed about 4 or 5 - not the most reliable.
Big wraps on Monty - 5 goals, played his butt off.
Johnston didn't play, I missed that shock of hair.
Gilchrist is a keeper, smart player.
Hannebury is a gem - we have a winner (Stuey found him, yay Stuey)
MOD is quick and gets the ball, and turns over the ball.....agh, found out tonight that McVeigh is his mentor, AAGGHHH
Pyke could be a contender, but....definitely one for the future.
Number 50, a Scholarship kid Lewis I think is also a keeper. Hard at it and doesn't take no for an answer.
Braba tries just so hard, but.....
I enjoyed this game, red hot go.

It was a shame Currie didn't bring his kicking boots today because he put on a masterclass of strong handed marking. I realise he has a height advantage and the opposition was a way away from senior AFL but his hands are incredibly strong under pressure and he reads the flight of the ball pretty well too.
Loved Gilchrist's game. Went in hard when it was his turn, had a few tricks and showed he sure is a smooth mover. If he can pack some meat onto that frame of his, he looks like a player with definite senior potential.
Wasn't as impresed by Hannebury as I was a couple of weeks ago but still oozed class at times.
Monty really was a class above the rest (Magic's cameo aside). Worked his butt off and kicked well for goal. Maybe a bit selfish at times - maybe trying to show off rather than do what was always best for the team.
Great to see MickyO out there for a bit. Had to feel sorry for some of the Ainslee defenders who probably haven't seen a ball gathered in on an invisible piece of string too many times before. His kicking was a little rusty but he looked happy to be out there and his team mates seemed thrilled to be playing alongside him.
I thought Pyke did some really good stuff - not just at stoppages. His inexperience is clear in some situations, and he seems to have caught the Murphy disease of thinking he has to bounce the ball when he really doesn't need to. But he looks like he could turn into something more than just a centre-bounce workhorse.
Laidlaw took some super marks up forward but missed a couple he should've kicked.
Kudos to all the top ups. They all had a real dip ought there and were important components of the win. Many of them looked very tired by the end, which probably explains why Ainslee came so close to running over the top. But for 3/4 of a game it looked like an oiled and cohesive team - far far better than a fortnight ago.
And an end word for DOK. I wouldn't have him in my best half-dozen but I thought his game today was very encouraging. Played in defence, took some strong marks, chased and tackled hard, looked like he was moving with ease, and was rewarded with a goal when O'Loughlin unselfishly kicked short to him when he might have taken a shot himself (after marking a super bullet-like pass from DOK in the first place).

A typical Swan then.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
Primmy and liz have covered a lot of what I had to say. Just wanted to add
Nathan Gordon was very prominent in the first half, he has great evasive skills and keeps a cool head in heavy traffic. I had him amongst our best players today. I think he has been consistently outperforming some of the listed players since the second half of last season. He will be our second scholarship player to graduate onto our senior list.
Jay Lewis, another scholarship player, kicked a fantastic goal. Perhaps it was the relatively slowness of the Ainslie player, but he was lightning quick down the Brewongle wing, and just managed to squeeze a kick out before being dumped into the ground and earning a free. However the kick managed to dribble its way over the line for a goal.
Before the game I thought Laidlaw might find himself in a key defensive post given he had played there in the past and we were crying out for one. However, I'm glad he played forward, as he was very clever near goals as well as being a solid mark.
Currie, besides the great grabs and poor kicking as analysed by liz, spent very little time in the ruck. I'm not sure if it's an injury holding him back or whether the coaches have Pyke and Orreal, who did the majority of the ruckwork, ahead of him in the ruck pecking order.
Micky O had a good hit out, he was playing further away from his usual FF position, obviously to get a lot more action.
Its the best O'Keefe game I've seen (of about 6 or so by my reckoining), but not exactly something to write home about. The only listed player, senior or rookie, playing in defence he was the general directing the youngsters in the backline. He was also having a real go, throwing himself into tackles and his goal, as previously mentioned by liz set up by unselfishly by Micky O, was a just reward for a good performance. I had him in my best 6 players as well.
Brabazon, horrible game, just turned it over continuously. He will really need to show something this year to remain on the 2010 list.
Johnston was hobbling on the sidelines, limping noticeably on his left leg, my source told me it was his foot but I'm not sure of the actual diagnosis.
Ainslie were pressing hard near the end, and could have scored on the last play just before the unexpected siren. They really put the pressure on the young topup defenders who I have to say didn't handle the heat very well. Top up 26, kicking a rugby league style bomb across your defensive half is probably not the best option.
Some great pics there jeffers, I bet the ressies would have been lifted by the sight of MO'L out there Though given Ainslie's colours, we would have been better off wearing our normal jumper!!
My best:
Buchanan Laidlaw Gilchrist Gordon Hannebery O'Keefe
I do wish they would have someone manning the scoring list at the ground who could recognise one player from another - maybe one of the injured squad members could fill in. For some reason it particularly bugged me this afternoon that they credited Gilly's second goal to Hannebury. They are not exactly similar looking. And it was a sensational kick from Gilchrist to nail that it.
