    Today's crowd...

30,834 people showed up for today's game at the SCG, the first since the kerfuffle over the membership package changes. It's the biggest crowd at the SCG since Round 14, 2003, when 31,121 turned up to watch us play the Eagles.

I thought we'd get a bigger crowd with the increased seating capacity, so it was a bit disappointing. I noticed there seemed to be quite a few gaps in the Brewongle Stand.

I also noticed there were a lot of Carlton supporters in the new Victor Trumper stand, judging from the size of the roar whenever the Blues kicked a goal.

I suppose we'll get an idea of how many Swans members sit in the Victor Trumper stand when we play a team with a small support base in Sydney. Round 9 against Port Adelaide comes to mind.

Great atmsophere today! I thought the crowd looked bigger than that. If the capacity is 46,000 now I am not sure how they would fit in another 16,000 people.

Anyhoo, loved the Saturday afternoon game and a great day out at the 'G'!
    Swannies for life!

Yeah I would actually prefer games on a Saturday afternoon. Hope there's more of them next year.

Considering Sydney were coming off a ordinary loss to the Brions, plus the Doncaster carnival at Royal Rnadwick, the Easter Show @ Homebush and later had the Rugby @ SFS a very good crowd all things considered IMHO.

I agree, when they posted the crowd as 30k we were looking for spots to fit half the number again and couldn't pick anywhere at all. Lots of empty seats, but I was suprised to hear it was that many.

I thought 30,000 was a fantastic crowd! You can't expect sell-outs every week these days, especially with so many other options on a sunny weekend afternoon in Sydney. I think the 2pm start helped though!

Great crowd. I think they better revise their max. crowd number because you can't fit another 15K into that ground.

That was why many people didn't turn up.

Statistically not quite right, but your intent is well noted. It was a great crowd, and looked even bigger than the announced figure. Further, I felt the atmosphere was great.

Now, for the record, it was the biggest SCG crowd since Adam Goode's Brownlow winning performance against Carlton back in Round 22 in 2006. Here is a list of all the 30,000 plus crowds since 2001:

                      1. 2005 SF Geelong 39079
                      2. 2005 R17 West Coast 37071
                      3. 2004 R11 St Kilda 36039
                      4. 2005 R21 Kangaroos 34975
                      5. 2004 R17 Brisbane 34926
                      6. 2006 R22 Carlton 33943
                      7. 2006 R2 Port Adelaide 33551
                      8. 2003 R 19 Hawthorn 33473
                      9. 2006 R11 St Kilda 31146
                      10. 2003 R14 West Coast 31121
                      11. 2009 R4 Carlton 30834
                      12. 2005 R4 Adelaide 30478
                      13. 2003 R17 Fremantle 30228

And unlike the biggest recorded crowds at Homebush, the Swans have a good record here at the SCG. with 10 wins from 13 games.

The Rugby next door actually helped the crowd IMO.

A sure barometer of a healthy crowd is when the bottom deck of the actual Members Stand starts to fill up and yesterday it was pretty full.

There were a group of 6 guys sitting in front of us in the Noble, 5 of whom were watching there first live game. They were dedicated Rugby types who took the opportunity to do the double header Swans/Waratahs. I'm sure there were many more like them.

Great crowd but bugger me where an extra 16,000 would fit though

The amount of empty corporate boxes is a real concern I thought.
