He must surely lead the league in running bounces give he takes about 3-4 steps per bounce.

He is giving us fantastic run out of the back but what I really like about Shaw is his workrate.
There was a moment in the last five minutes of the Brisbane game, when we'd been a player down for three quarters, and everyone was spent, the game was already lost, and there was Shaw, sprinting 30 yards across the centre square a contest. You don't associate the Pies with heart, but he's got plenty of ticker. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Shaw has slotted in so well that I hardly miss Tadgh. His run and carry is top class,he,like most of his mates on the backline, needs to work on his disposals. Our recruiters deserve a pat on the back for getting Mattner and Shaw to Sydney.Comment

Definitely adds a new dimension to our back line but overall, disposal is poor, not just his kicks.
The coaching staff would have known this though and I'm sure they be working on it during the season.
What will be interesting is Saturday 20 June. I'd be tempted to purchase a separate ticket and sit near Joffa and the gang at the southern end of the ground. I suspect Shaw will cop it fierce.Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sectorComment

Doing OK??? What games you been watching? I'd be surprised if he's not leading the club champion, Troy Luff and has snared a couple of Charlie votes too. The man is on fire.

From an early age, we are taught to hate the Shaws. Yet here we are with one in our midst, amongst our best players. This Shaw is a particularly ugly and hairy one too.
It feels good, but unclean too. Like when you squeeze a painful pimple - it hurts but is satisfying at the same time.
I don't know...it's all so new and different.but this Shaw kiddie is good thus far.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I like his game. His disposal is no worse than anyone else and would be superior to Malceski's game yesterday. His running is excellent.Last edited by Lucky Knickers; 20 April 2009, 05:58 PM.Comment

Shaw fits the Swans perfectly. He lights up the ground with his pace (it reinforces how little genuine pace there has been in the team for a few seasons now, making our successes all the more admirable given how important speed is supposed to be these days). Tadgh's dash was more or less gone over the last few seasons.
The Swans success in recent years has been built on working with what you have (and most of our players have a deficiency or two) but that is what makes them so great and makes the highs we've all enjoyed so special. It is almost a cliche now, but it rings pretty true - "there has been no team in the league better at getting the most out of themselves than the Swans".
And even the very best can struggle with disposal. Judd hurt his team a few times on Saturday with inefficient disposal (his first turn over in the first quarter was noted by our little coterie - "take note of that - Juddy turned it over for the first time in living memory!" - said coterie includes a dedicated Sydney based blues fan who hasn't seen his team win live for near on 20 years - he's made bad choices about which games to see in Melbourne too)! When Judd made a few more "blues" throughout the game, we were all truly shocked!Stats for Judd from the match - 30 disposals at 63% efficiency. Shaw 29 disposals at 76%.

The discussion that Jodi and I were having watching the game was how bad, in general, his disposal is. And that we would have loved to have seen Skilts take him on, Skilts would have masacred Judd.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

You are joking aren't you? Haven't you ever seen the 2005 Grand Final? At least half of his 30 disposals either went directly to a Swans player or to the Swans advantage. He gets the ball a lot, but butchers it way more than a so-called "elite" player should.
