Thats a very good point. The swans, and this forum, need a muppet to blame, tease, belittle, bully.

We've had a very strong list of Luff, chambers, Matthews, LRT, Bennett.... with cameos from the likes of Springs and Dale Lewis.

I dont think we have to look far though. Barlow seems to be rising to the challange nicely.

... and LRT does his job well enough to be a premiership player! He's had some pretty difficult injury problems since then, and still has plenty to give, and a lot of upside.

LRT is doing more than ok. The Brisbane game he was ok, the other 3 games he has been great. So much so, that when he had the ball, I found myself thinking, "Good, LRT has it." Even in 05, 06 I never thought that.

He's even lost some of that "new-born colt" look when he runs.

Big fan of LRT as was a CHB myself and know how difficult the position would be today with all the rules imposed to favour forwards. Big men often dont come good until they are in their mid 20's so hopefully its onwards and upwards for LRT.

LRT has always had good disposal when he backs himself but has too often in the past played without that sort of confidence. Looks now like he has a bit of self belief and his disposal by foot and hand is great. Has an excellent long handball which I hadnt noticed in the past.

It's interesting that LRT's good form coincides with Leo Barry's absence! Leo had the ability to put other Swans players under more pressure than he was under himself. Without that pressure, LRT has come into a league of his own, in career best form.

Being injury free probably helps too.

Oh now, that looks like an astute observation. Isn't it amazing how the absence of the leader of the pack brings in the next layer. We can follow an amazing history line here.

Lose Kell, get Bolts and Kirk. Lose Dunks get the other Bolts. Lose Willow and etc etc etc etc....

Hmmmm, does that mean we have to lose one to get another one? Isn't there a criteria whereby we can have one champ and get another one as well?

I'm amazed at the number of posts in this thread, and no-one has stated what seems obvious to me: the one defining moment when we won the game, is in the last quarter when LRT was wrestling with Cloke in the goalsquare, one-on-one, with Cloke clearly having the better position. A mark and goal from there, and Carlton would have truly had a sniff. Somehow LRT managed to get a fist on the ball; and not give away a free.

Hopefully that was the moment that he came of age as a senior defender.

And that's also the rebuttal to the 'Swans will go sliding badly and have to bottom out as their senior players fall away, because they have no quality youth' thesis. Youth develop as they are given, and earn, more responsibility.

The doomsayers at the start of the year would have said something like, 'Can you imagine what Sydney will be like with no Kennelly, no BBBH, no MOL, no Leo Barry, no Crouch, no Fosdike? Bottom 3.' Well, guess what? We just saw it on the weekend.

What that does for the team to see a teammate put their head over the footy at full pace knowing full well you're going to get blasted is courageous stuff that inspires our club as much as any in the comp.

Given how hard it is to find quality tall defenders, our ability to polish a couple of rough diamonds in LRT and Ted has been fabulous - which is not to say they won't both be exposed at various points during the year, but they do better than most.

Lewie is doing just nicely. His rebound is becoming very important and Fletcher-esque (though Dustin's chip kick is over a lazy 80 yards).

As for the Brisbane performance, our midfield lost that game for us with a heartless dry weather display in torrential rain. Brown and Bradshaw were gifted quick ball all night.

Speaking of the Cheese. Is it just me or is he a bit of a good time Charlie? I would really like to see Ed take the game on. Either Roos has contricted him with specific roles for short spurts or Ed just gets lost in a crisis.
