Amon was clearly in the best. He was one of the only ones to have a go in the first half - as he always does. Mistake riddled selfish footballer? You have to be kidding.

I guess my opinion of Buchanan will always differ from yours. I was always a fan of his but his last couple of seasons have been ordinary. He had 5 kicks and 15 handballs. My point about his selfishness is regards the team things. So many times he tries to burst past or go round players when clearly not clear. He did it twice last night and got caught HTB and lost possession for a turnover the other time. In both cases he didn't look to get the ball off by hand or foot when he obviously had to. He doesn't have the pace to do it and is heavily left sided so oppostion players know where he is going to run to.

No doubt his work rate was better last night but he also gave away 2 frees from very poor tackles. Amazingly he kicked a goal from a set shot which is rarity. My assessment of him is that he is about our no.25/26 on the list or worse when the rest are up and running.

He is at his best as a running flanker. Not fast enough to be an elite midfielder, not tall enough (or skillful enough) to be a an elite key position forward. As the third good forward he is very useful to the Roos game plan as a linking running flanker presenting and receiving the ball from the break out defense or quarterback. Perhaps he could be called a running wide receiver? But sadly when Big Beamish and Magic are not playing he just can't cut the mustard and is not good enough to carry the attack. Which does raise the question as to why he is on a Wall Street bankers remuneration. Tricky Dicky any explaination please???

WHY ???

When you are 3-4 goals behind in the first quarter, you are only 2-3 more goals away form game over in the second quarter. That happened.
We lucky against Carlton. We are not so lucky this time.
We didn't learn why we cant be speedy in the first quarter and put our body where they count, and play like the second half.

Can't start with second half intensity from the very first minute - need to change pre-game routine drastically (more speed routine and one-on-one clash. Simulate one-one close-to-actual clashes in routines to get the mind and body geared up for the first minute. If its done already, then do 30% more in each pre-game) or change players psychology days ahead of the game. Build confidence in our team, our strength, less talk up on opponents players.

Surely there are more more appropriate tactics for playing in the wet and larger ground. And those inaccurate short and middle distance kicks - practise 50% more than what they are currently doing. They should practise and practise. Practise like the English Rugby Union desginated kicker who won the union for England single-handedly from us several years ago. He practised days and nites. That's professsonal.

Those who are not prepared to put their body on the line or pack should voluntarily give up their spots to others. Your names have been mentioned and will be again shamed if you continue to play like a pussy

I have to disagree with u there. He was rubbish last night. He was selfish, trying to take on the player 3-4 times in that match and got caught 2-3 of those times. Cost us a couple of goals early on and his disposal efficiency was very average. His effort was there and he clearly tried his best but he was just very average last night. He WILL be dropped this week IMO, and hopefully Moore can get back in.
Oh and those people who thought O'Keefe had a shocker are stupid. Clearly his best game for the year, and he finally looked like he was returning to his best. WILL be better next week when Hall and MOL come back, allowing more space for him to run.

The Dockers came to play and at home when they are switched on they are as good as anyone else in the compertion.

I for one think that we didn't start that badly, more a case that the Dockers were very good at the stopages and then took their opportunities when going forward.

Our team is clearly in transition and we are going to find it very hard in the next couple of years to win away from home when we have 4 or 5 guys who just don't get enough of the ball at present.

Doesn't mean that players like Merideth, Thornton, White and to a lesser degree Bird and Jack won't turn out to he very good players. but at this point in time we are not getting enough output from them. As a consequence the rest of the team suffers.

Having said all that we will probably win 10 out of 12 at home and a couple away and finish somewhere around the 6th to 10th mark.

Hopefully we get to see more of Vezpremi soon and that youngsters like Laidlaw and Murphy get over their injuries and we can get a few senior game into the them.

Just a few comments..don't know what has been said as I haven't read the full thread and want to go to bed.

We could have won thatgame at a few stages of the game.

Shaw's 50 metre was a turning point. We were gaining momentum and had kicked 2 in a row and looked as though we could have pushed for that important 3rd but NOOOOOOOO.....

O'Keefe got better and better as the game went on.

Buchanan was dreadful. He was the slowest in the warmup and struggled. He was easily caught.

We lost a lot of 1 on 1's like we did in round 1 and they scored easily from these.

The youngun's tried but logically aren't able to impose themselves on the game.

Malceski is not a gooodtackler but did a couple of beautiful kicks.


Our clearance work letus down as Liz pointed out...He is HUUUGE that Sandilands and looks so funny when he gets wound up into top speed.

Jude and Beavan tackled really well. The one that Jude laid on Palmer putting the poorkid out of the game was on of the hardest tackles I haveseen off a Rugby field. You could hear it up in the First.tier of the stand

The goal umpire up ourend in the first quarter is trying so hard. His sprinting between posts was a joy to see and the way he sprinted to the centre at each break makes me want to bet on him for the Stawell gift next year.

Fair minded and level headed comments here from Liz and DST.
Freo were far more UP and desperate to win this game, to kickstart their season, we have seen how good St Kilda are. Despite Roos warnings this was not an easy game against a rebounding Freo, some players must have thought it was a bye game.
You had to admire Freo's superior workrate and skill levels, which clearly spooked the some of the Swans.
Their poor long suffering fans finallly had something to cheer about.
The Swans did Ok for the mix of players available for this game. A home ground is about a 3 gaol advantage, and thats about what we lost by.

Seeing we are to be getting Hall and MOL back I see there is no reason to try and go with last years forward lines,where possible,and see how they go.
We have nothing to lose by doing that IMO.

I've seen us play that well/bad and win so my gut is just that the better team on the night won.

And we seem to be playing 'fast and direct' but it's not working. More chipping around please.

That last half of football was probably the most direct and free flowing football we have played in a couple of years (outside of a few thrashings where we had no opposition).

We can play that way when required, but the flip side is that teams will score heavily against us if we turn the ball over which Fremantle did very well.
