No doubt Roosey will go for the boring orthodoxy, still the Moose on Richo could do things to the petulant ones head, especially if he beats him first up. It is possible that they will instruct him to run into the forward line particularly as Pattinson or Graham wont have his pace.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mike play. He won't let us down.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

How AFL world opened up for Mike Pyke | The Daily Telegraph

According to this: Mike Pyke to debut on Sunday.

Pyke, who is about to turn 25, was signed in August and will make his debut on Sunday. What's more, he will do it in front of his mum, Christine Peterson.

Yesterday the Swans arranged her a flight from Canada to arrive in Sydney in time to see his debut.

Probably the perfect summation of the match committee's thinking on this

Short of him dominating, he will probably be back to the 2's as soon as White is fit, although if he could show something this weekend it would be nice to have the luxury of White playing purely in a key position

                      Pyke?????

Has he played in the magoos yet?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

i can see where jdow is coming from, but we should be able to account for Richmond comfortably this weekend. If we can't then its going to be a long season

Either way I think it's a good move by the match committee

Hmm, now if they would only stop selecting Ablett and Crouch for the rest of the season i'll be happy

He will probably only play about 20% game time and will more than likely be told to follow the opposition ruck around the field or to push back in front of half forward. I doubt he would have the smarts to know when to push forward.

Currie must really be unfit as you would have thought this game would also be the perfect opportunity for him to show his ability.

Remember this is a game in which Brendon Fevola is a star. So if you can tie your own shoelaces you should be able to pick it up within an hour. And Pike is a bloke who has proved he can play professional team sport in a (largely) foreign language (French).

And it sound like Pike is simply a lot further developed than Currie. Do you recall Roos saying that pre-season "if you watched Pike train and in practice matches it's hard to believe he's only been been playing the game a few months. He should be a year out but, on form, he warrants selection consideration."

After all he's one of the few on the team that has represented his country in a world competition.

I haven't seen him play but I'm really looking forward to it on Sunday. Especially if he's the bulldozer others report that he is.

...and yet this does not square with the reports we've been getting back from the reserves watchers, indicating he's big but largely clueless.

Personally, I'd be staggered if we gets more than 2 possessions and would much rather see Currie get a gig.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
