Really glad Roos has stuck with Thornton and Meredith.

Very glad Ablett and Barlow have been dropped - they gives us nothing

Looks a strong team. Put White, Bird and Veszpremi in and that would be tops.

Well, he still can't handball and his kicking is still suspect, but it appears he is getting a game, so 'GO MIKE'.

I wish him all the best, but I suspect anybody expecting anything more than a Paul Chambers type backup ruck performance will be disappointed.

Could we expect anything less than a Paul Chambers type backup ruck performance?? What would Moose have to do - lock himself in the change rooms and refuse to come out?

I'm really dissapointed that Jesse won't be in, but good luck to Mike!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

It worries me that White is not in and is listed as "illness". With his prepencisty to party I hope it is not an off-field illness.

What! No no no. Jack has been given shutdown roles this season, he is doing ok.

AND, remember Dunks! Couldn't kick to save his life, saw him miss everything from INSIDE the goalsquare. But, he had his massive strengths, and he played to him. I think Mr Pyke will do the same. And he can tap ruck with them ok. Been watching him, and he has improved his technique in leaps and bounds, kind of freaky.

Jesse probably is sick, he has been under Stuey's tuition in the offseason (not rucking, other stuff), and I doubt anyone would do anything contrary to Stuey's expectations, he has this gaze of integrity that bores right through you. Doubt partying would be the problem to any great degree this year anyway.

The difference between the Moose and Donuts was that Mike has been a successful footballer (ok different code, but you know what I mean), and Donuts wasn't and knew it. Nice kid though, felt sorry for him. His confidence was zero by the time he pulled the pin.

Big Barry Round one of the greatest of the big men couldn't kick over a jam tin. Since when did a big man have to finesse FFS? Big men just have to be, well big, tap, tackle and occasionally pull a big one down in the square (forward or back). The Moose, who has run through an All Black defense in a World Cup will hardly be fazed by a mob of benders and pretenders from Punt Roadm, will scare the Christ out a few of the Tiges who are the weakest team in the clinches in the comp (but the best in the cliches -Terry Wallet take a bow)

I'd say the only problem he'll possibly have will be giving away free's for going in too hard at the wrong moment (in the heat of the moment), and the odd ankle tap or below knee tackle.

In all that time we have never fielded a player whose name rhymed unless you consider Neil McNeill from the mid-50s (he sounds a bit like Cool McCool btw). However with McNeill the meter was a bit out. Mike Pyke has the mono-syllabic allure down pat.

Some may argue that Jack Hacker who played over a hundred games in the years leading up to WWII, or perhaps Billy Billett from 1923 should receive honorary recognition for having a go in this area, but they will never match it with Mike Pyke.

A lazy poet might suggest Nick Smith or Dick Bliss (who sounds like he'd be more comfortable working in the adult film industry) but those suggestions don't hold a lot of water with me.

I'm hoping this sets a precedent and in future seasons a lot more application goes into recruiting players with rhyming names (Rolan Bolan, Zowie Bowie perhaps?). Bands have been trying it on for years.... Lynyrd Skynyrd, Milli Vanilli, Big Pig. Duran Duran tried but failed. So why not the players? It's bound to get more bums on seats while simultaneously messing with the commentators heads.

Anyway I'm hoping that he has a ripper. He'll probably go ok. This game isn't as complicated as some would have you think.

Get on the Mike Pyke bike.

You like the symmetry of the names...I like the symmetry of Pyke and his opposition.

Pyke called the Moose by Connelly...Bull Moose

Angus Graham....Angus Bull and he also comes from King Island where they harvest Bull Kelp.

It just does something for me.(Plus I likethe rhyme thing as well)

Both Graham and Pyke were both born under the sign of Aries. I have it on completely unreliable authority that both were born weeks premature so technically they are both Taureans. Yes Taurus the Bull.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.
