    Mattner's Tackle

I was impressed by this guy when he usedto play for the Crows and regularly carve us up! He has done nothing wrong and everything right as a Swans player so far and now has addded a match saving tackle to his achievemnets. That tackle saved the match for us.We would have not stopped the Tigers on a roll. His techniqe was perfect, rolling the body off the ball, gaining a free and 50 metre which ended up a12 point turn around. He was our stand out play of the day/year? and added to a great defense all round.LRT was fantastic,Bolton was good, Shaw dynamic,Bevan adequate though out played on occassions.Macca was missing but the others covered. Is he injured?

That was a moment to dwell on with a smile. They headed right toward us, that front on view was a bit of a thrill. Didn't think he would make it.

IIRC correctly Hartijon, it is not the first time he's layed a match saving tackle for us.

As I posted in the game day thread, that tackle saved the match for us. Richmond kick that goal, IMO they win the game.

Highlight of the game and quite possibly the best tackle I've seen in quite some time. Inspiring and possibly saved us from defeat, given that it helped us to get another goal to be 12 points up rather than on level scores. Our defence played well all game. Pity I cant say the same about our midfield and its sloppy ball handling.

That tackle may represent the difference between the Swans playing in September, or staying out of the Finals for only the third time since 1995.

Comparable to George Gregan's tackle on Jeff Wilson for the Wallabies against the All Blacks to win the 1994 Bledisloe Cup, or Scott Sattler's winning tackle for Penrith at the 2003 NRL Grand Final. Interestingly, all three tackles took place in Sydney.

He laid a ripper tackle to stop Danyle Pearce in the last quarter against Port last year too.

Just watched it on replay on the Hun site. Great effort and inspirational for the team.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

That tackle almost got me into a fight with a couple of tigers supporters who were also at the rex hotel(Port Melbourne) watching the game. This moron Richmond supporter was calling for every free kick under the sun during the game, it didnt bother me too much as we were comfortably ahead for most of the game, but he wanted 'in the backi for THAT tackle, well, didnt Johnny boy fire up after hearing that, I proceeded to abuse the crap out of that guy after that comment, after having a few by this stage,(cheap Hiennies at the rex on Sunday, $4 a stubby), his fellow tigers supporters being none too hapy with me and sticking up for their mate, then the bouncers had to come over and see if everything was all right, and lucky they did, cause I would have damaged all 5 of them . Ahhh footy, you gotta luv it sometimes.

                          Saved the game.

Need him to do it another dozen times next week.

(It really hurts me saying that ... seeings as we were playing Richmond and all.)

Wasn't really a 12 pt turn around... Should of been but wasn't... We did get the next goal but it wasn't immeadiately after.. We squandered about 3 chances before we finally put the slipper in..

Nonetheless, tackle of the year thus far and a game turner no doubt. Prior to that on the wing there had been a fair bit of argy bargy between Riewoldt and Mattner. IIRC, Riewoldt then went off and kicked a goal but it would seem Marty got the last laugh....

A game saving tackle that gave us the win. Mattner's been in excellent form since we snatched him from the Crows.
