    Swans Hall of Fame Celebrations

    Hall of Fame Dinner Details

Got an email from the club this morning.

Why is this function being held in Melbourne?

I would have gone had it been held in Sydney.

    Anyone?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

It's all tied in with the centenary of first flag celebrations, that's probably why!

I would, but I don't look good in a lounge.

Somewhat taken back. Melbourne? I thought we were the Sydney Swans. What's going on! They have just effectively excluded about 20,000 members - I am not impressed. I talk up the Swans etc, but I think I may be wrong. The club is slowly stripping everything away from the members. Even this.

We know Wayne Schwass is going to be part of it - any other names mentioned?

It is acknowledging the 100-year anniversary of the first premiership (from when the club was based in Melbourne) and 135 years of history, most of which were in Melbourne. I don't see the problem.

I am wondering how I am going to get from the game (having had a few bevvies) and then get my lounge suit on and be compus mentus for the function.

Wardy - is it ok if I wear my bridesmaid dress from your "wedding"? The watered taffeta number in "teal" with the princess neckline, puffy sleeves, and skirt with chook net?

It's probably being timed to coincide with the match against Carlton, as we won our first premiership against them.

I don't like these mid-season celebration things, they're an unnecessary distraction. We have a habit of losing games whenever one of these events have been put on.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

The team of the Century dinner was held in Sydney and a lot of the people that went were from out of Sydney..a real lot. Plus obviously the twenty years in Sydney thingy. So it must be Melbourne's turn as it is about a premiership won whilst based in Melbourne.

I have to travel /have travelled to both so it doesn't matter. As it is in Melbourne I am going to wear black (not taffeta)

Great to see the club honouring the full history of the club and i will go down for the game and event.

                            2 cities, 1 team.

Ties in very nicely with the 100 year celebration of the premiership win over Carlton and with it being a Hall of Fame dinner celebrating 130 odd years of a club which resided in Melbourne for 105 odd of those years.

The club was always going to hold this dinner in Melbourne after it had it's 25 year celebrations in Sydney recently.

Ohh and the Brisbane Lions did the exact same thing last year when they introduced their Hall of Fame in Melbourne at Crown Casino.
