    Who should we recruit?

We are definately never going to bottom out and we don't look like being able to repeat 2005 in a hurry the way we are going so far this season. Our youngsters are not setting the world on fire like a Rioli and the best we can hope for are servicable players from them. Our rookie list doesn't seem to have the same sting it used to and as we will finish in the 8 somewhere forget early draft picks.
What we need to do is what we have done so well with Tad,Mattner and now Shaw. Before that with Locket,Hall and C. Bolton. RECRUIT ready made players from other clubs. Given the fact we should have a bucket of money with all the imminent retirements who should we buy from the out of contract players available. Several star quality players would be enough to work a premiership team around given our fairly good depth already. Has anyone worked out who we could go for? I heard Pavlich mentioned but there is hardly enough room on the SCG for his ego and 17 other players. I favour an X factor forward..lets go for Johnson,Didak,Milne, Eddy, .With MOL probably going soon ,our only x factor forward goes too!

we are going to need a tall backman. Preferebly with a bit of size about him, not a tall skinny one.

You think Pav has a giant ego?

Other than that, I agree. What about that Schneider bloke that plays for the Saints? He been doing alright.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

Rioli from the poos and wees.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

1 Chinese gymnast as our small forward with defensive skills
1 Khazakstani goat herder (tall) to help our LRT
1 Argentinian polo player to ride the pack and take some hangers.

I mean seriously, it's round 8, haven't we got plenty of other stuff to talk about right now rather than who we are going to recruit?

And I think it's a bit early to give up on our rookie list. Pyke looks like being a success in the Tadhg class (big call I know, but I think he's a class player in the making), Orreal, Murphy and Thornton have all shown promise, and we might just get Coney back. Then add the kids on the list such as Currie, Hannebery, Bird, Meredith and Johnston, plus the next youngsters up such as Jack, and we aren't looking too bad.
What we do need is a KP forward to ease us through the transition from Baz and Magic to Johnston, someone around the age of Roughead and Franklin who knows the ropes but whose club isn't getting the best return from him and who might do better with a new coach/environment/batch of teammates - insert likely names here. For instance, are the Bulldogs happy with Everitt?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

When he finishes his football career.

Seriously - I wouldn't want a player who walks away from the Captaincy of the current Geelong team....he'd have to have a screw lose.

Jarryd Roughead - should be our #1 target
Michael Johnson from Freo - 2nd vote for him
Not sure who else would be on the market but we'll have some $$$'s to spend. A classy midfielder in the Paul Williams mould would be great - he was a super recruit when we got him.

Stroke of genius I reckon - will be great to have a big body in the goalsquare. Although his mobility would be a bit limited, I dont think anyone could beat Humphrey in a one-on-one in the square. Has Coleman medallist written all over him.

Communication skills would let him down though.

Who do we recruit to train?

Another queston to ask is who can we recruit to train, perhaps on consultancy basis, for:
                            1) young to run the real dash as none/few have shown strong capability despite theirr able agile bodies. Perhaps we need dasher Bolt kind of trainer for all.
                            2) getting more than 50% of the ball in the middle
                            3) our forward to do strong pack marks and ride-on marks as this has been a failure
                            4) defence to outmuscle/outsmart gorilllas and gazelles opponents as this needed a look-in. like the smart training by Sylvani guy on LRT.
                            5) all the party tricks on the field eg side stepping, passing blind, etc. Magic can begin to offer some tips now perhaps, not continue to hide them in his magical hat at this later stage of his career.
                            6) against stopping, looking and looking from our 50metre defence area when we should be attacking.
                            7) fast kick-ins

We dont need to recruit others to train us on
                            1) tagging as we are champ for many years. Looking at opponents instead going for the balls in the middle.
                            2) crabbing sideways - we were (are?) king crab/crap.

                            some quick thoughts....

By looking for the type of player that we want to recruit is also telling all where our player weaknesses are at present or how some Swan players feel right now - perhaps with growing disappointment on where we are going. A pro-active question that can be asked and discussed.
