In theory, we need to give all of the youth a few games in a row to see if they can cut it at senior level. In reality, there are a finite number of spots available (even when a squad is as decimated by retirement and injury as we are), and so you're going to give those spots to the players who show they deserve it the most.

'You're playing mediocre footy in the 2nds, so you're in line for the chop, so we'll give you a few games of 1sts just to be sure you're not up to it before we delist you' isn't a line of thought that would appeal to many selectors.

No but Brabazon isn't playing mediocre footy in the 2nds, he has had 2 games in the seniors, the first of which was handy, the second i didnt see.

His form in the reserves wasn't outstanding before selection and I would be suprised if the selectors weren't taking a look at him to see what he can do

VFL form is not the be all end all, but we may have delisted the wrong player
Problem with Faulks and what cost him another year on the list was his attitude.

From all reports much better suited to being a part time player in the VFL and that is where he will remain from now on in.

problem is that with lists getting smaller and smaller and clubs being forced to cull players to participate in the draft, players can't be kept on like they used to be to allow the time to develop.

similarly, older players can't linger on past their used by date, just to go out on their terms.
