So I was just having a look at the injury list and we have a lot of players on the cusp of a return to the fray! YAY! so here's my analysis. I haven't thought about changes positionally, instead I've basically just said who i want to come in and why. Don't know who will go out in most cases but the changes are there to be made, especially if we lose the next two!

To those who think we have no depth, I say poo! Give the kids a chance, then make the judgement.

Leo Barry Knee Test WILL NOT PLAY IF WE LOSE NEXT 2
GAMES- may get 1 last game
    towards end of year

Brendan Murphy Shoulder Test MUST PLAY- After a couple of
reserves games to get back fitness,
he MUST PLAY, in for mal (on mal,
get him playing in the reserves week
after week, and don't give him his
spot back until he's regularly getting
30+ possies and mltple goals!) the key
position player we have been looking
    for! Needs senior experience!

Tim Schmidt Knee Test Must play, from his limited
    opportunities has shown good skills,
and despite being quite short, he is a
mature body that needs to step up!

Amon Buchanan Knee Test GONE! will be on the chopping block
if we lose the next two games, or if he
    doesn't improve/ stop playing selfishly

Matthew Laidlaw Ankle 1 week Having shown good form in the
ressies must come into the senior
side after recovering from his injury
Not sure where he'd play but just put
him in the side!! He deserves it!

Lewis Johnston Foot 5 weeks If we are really struggling towards
the end of the year give him a game
or two, give him a taste. As of next
year i think he needs to play as a
    permanent fixture.

Brett Meredith Forearm 10 weeks Sadly gone for the rest of the
season, but has shown alot of
poise and will be a regular in the
    team before long.

Campbell Heath Knee Reco. Season n/a

Barlow Look. I really like this bloke.
I know he hasn't lived up to
expectations but he's still young. I
believe he has what it takes. I
think he's a confidence player so
put him in and play him as a lead
    up half forward. DO IT!

Currie Play the boy! Bring him into the
ruck in place of jesse or move
    jesse fwd or back.

Hannebery He will play next year. from all
accounts he already has quite a
    mature body and GREAT SKILLS.

DOK/Thornton/Vespa Ok, with these three, there's a spot
up for grabs with bucky surely in
danger. choose one and stick with
    him! Preferably vespa for his
    enthusiasm and energy.
    Smith Same with smith/laidlaw. Both
    consistent performers in the
reserves. Pick one (or both) and
    stick with him!

So 8 in and two out, who else deserves the punt just for the sake of it. At the end of the day most of the guys playing also deserve their spot, so unless someone is going to be shown the door why drop them if their form warrants playing
The edge is not the limit, It's just the starting point...

I'm just trying to explore the options we have waiting in the wings, if indeed mr Roos decides to take the 'play the kids' stance. If and only if.

            "Youth" is overrated.

            Quality is far more important.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

As mentioned in the rest of this thread, we don't have the quality. We are playing 3-4 short every week and the top players are carrying these players on their backs.

How long do players get picked and play on memories? We can't just sit in hope that they are going to magically hit their straps.

Now that would be interesting. F&S draftee picked to play round 1 would raise a few eyebrows on RWO.

                  You're missing the point again.

I said "Youth" is overrated. Quality is far more important.

I have a problem with both older and younger players if they don't perform. Age is secondary. I would replace Bevan, Ablett, MOL (old), Moore (young) and Grundy (young) with five 30 quality year olds any day.

While I generally agree with you that youth, for the sake of youth, is overrated, that observation ignores the reality of developing a list.

It is nigh impossible to recruit 5 quality 30 year olds, without giving up a substantial amount of your existing quality. They also have limited shelf-life - so in a few years you'll need to go and find some more.

And the one pro in favour of youth is that they have more scope for improvement, assuming they start with a decent degree of talent, than a 30 year old. But they won't actually improve unless they play.

Agreed, and that is why I chose only the 5 weakest links in our team, 2 of which average 30y/o - not the worst 22.

                            Apologies to the Beatles

Yesterday, my Swannies were premiers, first time since 33.
Now in 09 it seems we?re playing awfully.
                            Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, Bazza?s not half the man he used to be,
Dropped marks, missed leads, the punch and fifty metre frees,
Oh, mid-table, talks of tanking came so suddenly.

Why did Schnappi Schneider have to go?
He had such promise, Roosy we have to know.
Now I long for the old McVeigh.
I must be nuts, his good form started the decay,
But it?s hard to deal without winning ways.

Yesterday, the flood was such an easy game to play.
With Crouch and Ablett tagging there was no place to hide away.
The run of Tadgh and Eskie?s bursts were legendary.
Oh, I believe in a yesterday.

Nick Davis come to save us,
Amon Amon, he kicked straight, good times we all agree.
Outplayed Geelong, the Saints and West Coast, grannies finally,
Twenty to one payouts, it would last an eternity

Why did those times have to go?
An era when Dimitreau showed he didn?t know.
LRT had a blinder, they had to change the rules.
Now I long for that red and white yesterday.

Yesterday, afl was such an easy game to play.
Now it?s harder with zones, forward pressure, old age and feet of clay.
Without Cousins and Playhard Playfair, we'd had our pay.
                            Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Then again, I?ve heard that we have youth,
Perhaps the injuries are a great untruth,
                            Bird, Vespa, White, and Meredith,
Even DOK has finally shown something.
Saturday Knight?s Richmond win, this year the Swans could do anything.
I?ve placed fifty dollars of odds of eighty one,
                            Only yesterday!
