    Reserves v Belconnen

    2pm Saturday 20th June
Note this game is being played at Manuka Oval, not as the curtain raiser to the Pies game. The curtain raiser will be the U18 championships match between NSW/ACT and NT (starring our own RBN)

    Ladder
Belconnen (8-2)are equal first after beating Eastlake in the last round, while the Swans (3-6 with 1 draw) are hanging on to 4th spot.

    Recent History
    R1 Belconnen 16.14 (110) Swans 10.5 (65) at Ainslie Oval
    R6 Belconnen 26.18 (174) Swans 12.12 (84) at Manuka Oval

    Team List
With the awkward scheduling, it probably means at least one and possibly two of the senior emergencies will be staying up in Sydney.
    • 8. Daniel O'Keefe
    • 9. Nick Malceski (dropped from seniors - underdone after catching the flu according to Roos)
    • 10. Daniel Currie (listed as back injury-test on the injury list)
    • 13. Patrick Veszpremi (a good game supposedly will have him back next week)
    • 20. Luke Ablett (senior emergency)
    • 21. Leo Barry (knee-test)
    • 32. Amon Buchanan (dropped from seniors - although Roos said he might play in this game)
    • 34. Ryan Brabazon
    • 36. Tim Schmidt (knee-test)
    • 38. Mike Pyke (senior emergency)
    • 41. Brendan Murphy (shoulder-test)
    • 43. Matt O'Dwyer (senior emergency)
    • 44. Jake Orreal
    • 46. Taylor Gilchrist
    Top-ups
Nathan Gordon hasn't played in the last handful, while RBN, as mentioned at the top will be playing for NSW/ACT U18. Matt May has played in the last couple of matches, both home and away.

Stuck in Canberra. Think I'll go the game. Could be a particularly thin Swans crowd with the game in Sydney on the same day

Would really like to hear about the magoos from anyone at Manuka.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'll pop in for a bit if not all the game. Don't reckon I'll take the wireless for 'live updates but I'll make some mental notes

Can anyone tell me why the reserves play act and not nsw teams? It always seems crazy to me that they play away alot of the time and a) we don't get to see them and b) there is no promotion of nsw afl teams when they do play at the SCG. As there is such alot of talk of falling interest in AFL I would have thought any promotion of the game in this state would have been a top priority.

Because the ACT league is significantly stronger than the Sydney league.

DOK with a neck/ back injury im hearing and Pyke with a soft tissiue injury, got a flogging by 109 points, no Buchanan, O'Dwyer emerg tonight. , Currie. My source today is a sprinter from the sports acad on sms so I need to bug him about Schmidt and Barry.

Reckons Malceski and Braba had good games.

DOK just can't catch a break

Let's just hope that the Belco Pies v Swans Reserve game isn't a premonition of this evening.

I haven?t watched too many Reserves games and this was my first since the grand final last year. Between quarters people go out for a kick on the ground, hang out near the team huddle and it?s great to see dogs and kids running around. I swear the beers were less than $4.00. All that was missing was the honking of car horns at a goal.

In my opinion, Malceski stood out for the Swans. Played in the midfield and got his hands on the ball a fair bit. He copped a few hard knocks and seemed to handle them ok. Had precision in his kicks and good vision. Vespa and Brabazon also played well. Haven?t seen enough of DOK to know if he?s improving but he has potential.

Unfortunately, I couldn?t see any standout other than Eski who might be pushing for spot in the firsts. Even Eski, who from what I saw had good skills, wasn?t making bursts like we would like. Luckily, I wouldn?t know what the experts are really looking for from individuals in such an ad hoc and imbalanced team like the Swans Reserves who were getting pumped so there?s hopefully there?s more cause for optimism than I saw.

I left half way through the 4th quarter with Belco leading 19 11 125 to 6 10 46. ROK had just been smashed and had to be stretched off. Sorry can?t give more details as I didn?t see what happened in the contest.

Did Brendan Murphy get a run out, heard he was back frm injury? If he did, how did he do?
