Such a crying shame Barlow, he is athletic, has good skills and a decent football brain but just does not play with any intensity.

There is still hope, but somehow he is going to have to lift his intensity and work rate to make it as a senior footballer.

I thought he (Barlow) did some good things tonight and was more involved than he has been previously. Worth persevering with, and more game time. How else will we or he know what he can do?
        Unfortunately Crouch's days are numbered.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Certainly worth preserving with, as for Crouch his time will come (along with MOL and Leo) at the end of this year but at this point in time he is not holding out a youngster and has been reasonable so remains in the side.

Bring in Vezpremi. Give Bird a run with role to get him closer to the action. Combined with Jack and Bevan, we have three small negating players. What more does Crouch offer?

Barlow wasn't too bad. Most of the side were down.

If there was an obvious replacement for Crouch, he'd be gone already. The reality is that we have not managed to close down small forwards for a while now.

Vez will play next week, but you can't expect a kid to play straight away after tearing a tendon in his finger and missing 11 weeks.

I am all for playing some of our youth, but Laidlaw is injured again, Merideth has broken his arm, Murphy is coming back from shoulder surgery, Schdmitt from a long term soft tissue injuries, Johnstone a broken foot.

                Do I need to go?

Apart from Thornton, Smith and Barlow who all got a run tonight the cupdoard is bare at present.

Crouch was poor, but it was his first poor game of the year. Deserves another chance.

What was wrong with Barlow? I was very, very happy with his intensity this game. As I said in the game thread, I thought his intensity was 10X that of his last game. He actually tackled, busted his gut chasing and putting pressure on the Pies ball carriers, and broke a few tackles himself (won 5 contested possessions, not a bad effort). His ball use was also very decent, and he sent it inside 50 4 times. Not sure what people are complaining about. I fear he may become the new LRT, judged by many purely on preconceived notions, no matter how well he plays.

Did improve as the game went on. Good chase too.

I'm sure you would appreciate, the bloods are not judged by what they do with the ball, but without it. IMO he does not look interested in getting involved when he may get hurt. Harsh call I know.

I seem to recall Crouch doing a couple of decent things in the first qtr and thinking "if he keeps playing like that he'll show the knockers" - I think I may have been premature

I am glad to say Cheese did improve in the second half. He had to, his first half was ...............soft.

Crouchy, someone tell him. However who do we bring in for him. Taylor Gilchrist? No? Not available by rules?

Schneider? Oh yeah, gawn and having a wonderful time elsewhere3.

Mal? Probably, we need superman back.

                          Buchanan? Might have too.

                          Luke? Too injured.

And on top of that poor ole Macca was barely able to hold his own, he was in real strife with that shoulder, and can anyone see him getting up next week?

                          Houston, we have a problem.

It's hard from the TV, but from what I can gather Ed was sent or was supposed to go to Maxwell to try and make him accountable and draw him away from Hall.

He just dropped off him too easily IMHO, but I agree he was better tonight and is certainly worth persisting with, just need him to play at a higher intensity level.

The sad part about Crouch is he didn't know what to do when he got the ball. Time has past where you can get away with his type down back that offers no run from defence. Negating, big deal if he has lost all idea of the elemntary thing called disposal.
