    Idiotic comments by commentators

I know they all make them all the time but last night there was a pearler. In the context of poor disposal the comment was made that Buchanan was one of the Swans' better kickers of the ball. Do they actually watch the games they comment on?

Heard that too. It was Buchanan and Malceski in the one sentence by Michael Christian.

I listen to a lot on SEN and not many so called experts have much idea past Ablett, Judd and Riewolt. Very few of them can give an informed analysis of any team. Liam Pickering is the worst of all and fancy Robert Shaw being mentioned in any sentence that includes the word expert.

I thought this would be a Denis Commetti general comments thread.....

Yeah that comment and a few others made me yell at the TV. Somthing about ROK "doing a bit in the midfield tonight"..Hasn't he been put on the ball for significant minutes for last five games??

Really, how hard is it too do a bit research before the game? Read the local papers, look at the stats, watch their previous game. Even, maybe, and this shocking, find out what the fans think from the team forums..

Because they are only commentators. The clubs do the in depth analysis of other clubs players, commentators don't have the time to do that between social functions and sportsman's nights. They are merely performers on their own stage. Cometti reherses is gags and nothing is spontaneous. People on Melbourne radio lauded him until they found this fact out.

The Marx Bros did this for all their movies. They did countless stage shows in front of live audiences. Threw out the gags that didn't work and kept the ones that did.

When they did their movies, it was practically done in the one take. Genius.

I think that some comments about talking tv heads are getting a touch catty.

I agree, I quite like Dennis- rehearsed or not. It seems a regular knock against him of late; comedians rehearse (and use the same material for entire runs of shows), people (or at least I) love Dennis because he is the funniest commentator going around- some hit, some miss. I have no issue if he thought of it beforehand.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I noticed that too. It was hard not to notice it. Buchanan couldn't hit water if he fell off a boat.

If Buchanan is one of our better kickers of the footy, we should be on the bottom of the ladder.

Maybe he stopped researching after 2005/6

Beleive it or not, if it was not for Buchanan's clean skills and decision making in the last qtr of the 05 GF we would still be waiting to break the drought.

The comments were justified as the Monty of 05/06 was a very good user of the ball.

For what ever reasons we have not seen this since.

You dont lose skill but as I have gotten older I now realise that if your not fit , you lose time and space to do things and if you bust a gut to get the ball in a contest your skill level drops in your disposal because your buggerred.

I reckon Amons problem is fitness. If you look back at 2005/2006 I believe he was much fitter and musclier than he is now. Hes either not getting fit enough through lack of application or injury but he is definitely not at 2005/2006 fitness levels.
