Adelaide crowds are ferral

While I've never experienced Crows supporters for myself, my dad, who is from Adelaide, now lives in Sydney, and is an Essendon supporter, had the Crows as his second team when they first entered the competition, the Swans as just a team of general interest (since that's where he was living). He then went to an Adelaide game, and said it was the worst football experience of his life. Vitriolic, racist, inane, unintelligent, horrible supporters, apparently. Turned on their own players on a regular basis (every team has these, but apparently these were the dominant supporters). By the sounds of it, nothing has changed.

As I said, every team has these. Apparently, the majority of Crows supporters did this. I wasn't there, just reporting back what my dad thought.

Let me tell you about one.

I was walking along Driver Avenue to the Port game with my son. I suddenly tuned into a conversation from someone behind me.

The male voice said: I went out with these blokes last night. One of them king hit this guy and before he hit the ground, we had 20 pigs on us.

Then I hear this little voice say: Why did they do that?

He said: Pigs had nothin better to do.

At this point I had to turn around to see who the wanker was.

It was a bloke about 190 cm tall, middle aged, wearing a Swans jumper and the worse dyed black hair you could have ever seen. He had it combed back Elvis style. Tats on arms. Next to him was an 8 year girl I presume was his daughter.

I just shook my head as he walked past. What an embarrassment to other Swans supporters. What hope has the poor kid got in life whilst being reared by a neanderthal.

Sadly we do have our own types. They just don't seem to bother us as much because they are cheering for the same team.

I must agree with the orginal post about the majority of crow supporters being ferral. I was living in Adelaide when they joined the competion. Since that day there has been constant complaints about the behaviour of Crow supporters.
Went once to AAMI, got abused beyond belief, come very close to a few fights. Left in absolute disgust and vowed never to return. They are worst than Collingwood supporters of the seventies at Victoria Park. Vowed to hate anything crows like they where Carlton.

Thanks for that. I thought I was just too sensitive... for the past 10 years!

Here's the thing. My wife and I went to the Swans pre-match function. She's a Crows fan (one of the nice ones, you know, claps good play from either side, doesn't abuse my boys or eat the souls of hers if they make a mistake). Anyway, we were at the Swans pre-game function. Red and white as far as the eye could see (mirrored walls made the room look bigger) and she was one of just a couple of Crows fans (presumably tolerant partners) in the room. There wasn't even playful ribbing from Swans fans to her. Just nice pleasant hellos and smiles. Even Matty Nicks said to her "Have a good day... but not too good a day."

I know not all Swans fans play nice to opposition suporters. But in my experience, most seem pretty good. I've not had a fun time at Crows matches in the last decade... win or loss. The only times it's been tolerable is when we sit in the middle of the rest of the Swans cheer squad (couldn't get tickets there this year

). I hate to say it, but even Port supporters behave better.

My dad's been to AAMI several times to see the Swans play (against both Port and Adelaide) and he's always very positive about the experience.

I guess it's reflective of the city in general. I hate the place because of the mentality of the majority of the locals. I only go there when I have to, but with my two older daughters living over there with my ex, I travel there about every 6 months for each of their birthdays. If it wasn't for my daughters I would never go there, horrible place with very strange inhabitants.

I went to an Adelaide game in early 2007. During the very, very long walk to the car park, (we had a hired car for a week long holiday), saw one guy, aged about 35, making some unpleasant comment to the direction of me. I turned around I yelled:

"At least we make it to Grand Finals! When was the last time the Crows made a Grand Final?!"

In light of the last two seasons (2005-2006) where Adelaide were minor premiers but couldn't even win home games in the finals, it was a comment that made its mark.

I had been warned that the Adelaide fans were feral by my Crow friends but didn't witness or experience any untoward behavior. The consensus doesn seem to be that Power fans are generally easier to live with unless they are turning on themselves and you are a Power fan.

I can't say that my experience at AAMI was anything less than pleasant but I was sitting with the Swan's fans behind the goals. I?d go again.

Agree that every club has its wingnuts and thugs, but Crows have a pretty bad rep.

The hysterical local media must take some of the blame. Their obsessive coverage encourages the worst kind of supporters.

Can't prove it but I'd also like to think it has something to do with the Crows being a manufactured club, with no history and a cringeworthy club song, that trashed 130 years of SANFL history to come into being (yes, I'm still pissed).

The weird thing is, the Crows have been running a "19th man" campaign this year to get the crowd (Mr 19,) to be more vocal. Maybe if the 'normal' supporters spoke up more they'd shut up the dickheads.

(The only Crows game I've ever seen was the final against Collingwood last year. Everyone behaved perfectly, including the guy next to me who was also a Swans fan

I was wondering what the hell that 19 was about. I was thinking that he'd scored a bag of goals till I realised there wasn't a 19 on the Adelaide list

Hey, don't knock rockabilly guy! One of favourite people to spot sitting in the crowd (never spoken to him, mind- but exciting to see he's there!).
