Room in the salary cap - who do we throw money at?

Roughy would be #1 on the wish list, but difficult (nigh impossible) to get him. Pav a longshot - Adelaide boy with enough behind the scenes talk over the years to suggest if he goes anywhere it will be back home. That has quietened somewhat in recent years, so may have outgrown the go home factor and he could figure it is only 4-5 years till retirement anyway and make his last contract "cash time". Then we'd have a chance of snaring him.
The pile of cash will only be truly useful (ie, able to be deployed without forgoing draft picks) if an uncontracted big name cracks the sh**s with his current club and can then price himself to the hilt in the pre-season draft.
Or a contracted player cracks it and his club is happy to see him off in return for the Swans picking up part of the salary.
Otherwise the money for the player is only half the equation - draft picks and/or an established player are all that will satisfy a club holding a contracted player.
Interesting times ahead. But at least we know the future superstar for us is out there somewhere (or within). They always have been and always will be - it's the timing that remains to be seen!Comment

Hansen? Edwards? You're not thinking hard enough. Surely there's a disgruntled Courtney Johns out there somewhere?Comment

Well its a bit of a dilemma, Sydney seriously needs a rebuild, but cant afford to hit the bottom of the ladder. Draft picks are gold this year, but does that mean they would be more useful trading them for established players so we can try and make another few more runs at the finals? I think so.
As for players who knows, but I think Sydney will be after a "marketable" player(s).
I like the Roughy idea, I mean who would want to live under the "shadow" of Buddy.
Reiwoldt? isnt he out of contract this year.
Pav - Ooooh that'd be nice. its obvious he needs a change, unfortunatley we're not home territory for him.Comment

The free agency thing interesting.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a player off contract, we don't have to give up draft picks for him, just buckets of cash.
With the retirement of so many senior names, and not to many young one being abe to push for real money, we have great flexiblity.
Still, I guess we will do what we always do.
Find some angry player whose club doesn't want him.doof-doofComment

I'd rather spend the cash on a midfielder if we had to. No point having a good forward if they're not going to see much of the ball.
That said, the club shouldn't even be considering a trade this year given where the list is at and the compromised drafts in future years.
I'm skimmed through the whole thread and surprised no one has thrown up Fevola - he seems to fit into the category the Swans would usually go for: erratic, talented, needs a change of scenery, team mates sick of him. I would have thought he'd be a far more realistic option than Pav or Roughy, though I hope it never comes to that!"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
