Alot of the senior players are still performing. Do we consider Malceski and Ted as being senior? If so, I would not have a problem with those two gone in order to get some experience into some kids. Others who could go include Crouch, Buchanan and Ablett. I'm not sure what to do with Leo if gets himself fit. Maybe give him a one-off run in Sydney to give him a proper send off.

The thing that gets me about this is there are an obvious 3-4 who would be dropped for the youth policy, but maybe 6-7 that I'd like to see playing (when fit).

Will be interesting if they take the easy option or drop some people who maybe don't deserve it for the sake of youth.

Ted does not deserve to be dropped, nor will he be dropped.

Ablett and Crouch are most likely to go at the end of the year, to add to the loss of Hall & O'Loughlin. Leo will probably go too barring a miracle. With 3 others going before the season even started, not too sure how many we will actually have to drop off the list at the end of the season?

Perhaps Ablett and Buchanan will get traded or allowed to go elsewhere?

Unfortunately due to injuries the door isnt being bashed down by an onslaught of youngsters ready to break into the team....

i would be happy for all those guys to go at the end of the year except malcheski he deserves another year to try and regain the form of 07.

With our forward cupboard thin at best, Playfair will play on if his hamstring allows him but that is 50/50 at best.

There is not a chance in hell that DOK will be punted this year when you have the likes of Brabazon and O'Dwyer still on the list and we are very unlikely to see us cut take 7 in the draft which is thin this year.

We are more likely to take 5 and the following spots are already available:

With Ablett looking shaky due to constant injury and Bucky due to form, but both are likely to be retained due to the need for some sort of experience on the list.

Agree with you on DOK completely. He's just starting to get some footy into his legs after two frustrating years and he's showing a bit.

In terms of other delistings / retirements, you need to factor in rookie elevations as well to determine number of draft picks. Murphy almost has to be promoted (especially if they want to keep Orreal as a 3rd year rookie), while cases can also be mounted for promoting Pyke, Thornton and Gilly too (if he wasn't so skinny I reckon he'd be close to ready for senior footy right now).

Disagree on Monty. We are really light on in terms of players in that 24-26 age bracket and we're already going to lose a huge amount of experience over the next two years (much of it this year). Watching Monty on Saturday, he was clearly oodles of class and ability above practically every single one of the "play the kids" kids he was alongside. Of the multitide of smaller running players in the reserves team this week, the only one I believe will ever come close to Monty's level is Hannebury - and that includes the likes of Schmidt and Moore, as well as DOK, Brabazon, MOD, Gordon, Thornton. That doesn't mean some of those mightn't become decent players but they have shown no signs of Monty's creativity or skill.

Yes, I know he hasn't shown it for the last two seasons, but he is proven at senior level. Maybe he needs a kick up the backside to improve his fitness to its 2005-6 levels. Maybe a serious of niggling injuries has stopped him getting back to that level. But I see absolutely no point in punting him for the sake of it, nor giving him away. If someone offered a second round draft pick, maybe, but can't see the point in losing him otherwise.

I think that you are close to the mark. I wouldn't be disappointed if this lot went and I am still quietly optimistic with the young brigade we have together with a couple of the scholarship players.
