Really? Would you like to explain why you seem to think the only factor determining how good a kick a player is is his technique? Because if that's the case, with a bit of work I, or anybody, could be the best kick in the world. Pyke, with his current technique, will never kick for goal like Plugger. It's limiting. But it's not the only determining factor. His familiarity with his style and his natural co-ordination and timing mean that every kick he has had at AFL level ever has been decent-good. You can only judge how good a player is by his output.

Your view is the footballing equivalent to "all women are physically weak and bad at maths". Sure, women tend to be physically weaker than men, and men tend to be better at maths and science, while women tend to be better at English and arts. That doesn't mean there aren't women out there that could beat the crap out of me, or beat me in a maths exam. I certainly wouldn't assume I'd beat any woman I met in a maths exam, and you shouldn't assume that Pyke is a bad kick, especially when all the evidence so far (not that there's a lot yet) suggests he's not.

Greg Stafford did EXACTLY the same thing against Nth Melbourne at the SCG some years back.

But Stafford was experienced enough to know because the scump hadn't called play-on, he could just pick the ball up and go back and try again. He duly kicked it from memory.

The young Melbourne fella panicked unfortunately. At least he had a laugh about it himself.

I agree has to be Pyke, seen him at training, but he is learning the trade.
Grundy and Ablet when below par. J Bolton can have some shockers and A Buchanan

I just cannot understand J Bolton being mentioned in these posts. Some of the most unbelievable goals that have lifted the team come from Jude on the run. Witness 2003 against Port, I see it but I don't believe it, as just an example. Over and over again I have said to my mob, here we go, Jude's kicked a cracker and the boys have taken off. Mostly they are snuck goals, that I agree, and perhaps his set shots are a bit wonky but we should not have him listed in this post.

Also I would like to mention his clearances from the centre in a crowd. He is terrific at that, so perhaps that is why his sneaky goals are fantastic and his set shots are not so fantastic all the time. He is better in a crowd

You have to look at his set shots too, man easy shots have been missed by him, like the one on Sunday.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

...and the one in the 05 GF on the run that could have sealed it. OOBOTF. We won, so I only remember it when I watch the DVD.

Ahem, he kicked that goal from how far, a metre out? Maybe not that far.

It would have been way way harder to miss.

he had 2 handball options in Davis (?) and Schneider. Bloody Judd did really well to put pressure on him as he took the snap.

His two very gettable shots in the 2006 GF in the first quarter put the doubt in my mind that we were going to lose. Both bad misses, doubly so against a side where the winning margin was going to be small! Had he nailed both who knows what would have happened? Hate to pick on him as he is one of my favourite Swans and it was his courageous play that gave him the two shots! I maintain his kicking is excellent now.Much improved! Saturday's miss was a abberation! I would back him 8 times out of 10 to sink that shot he missed on Saturday

Jude kicked a great goal against the weagles in 05 at the SCG. From the 50 on the members boundary. I was quoted as saying "absolutely no chance" before Jude slotted it with the game in the balance.

The same game as Schneider man regained his mojo after burning Drew Banfield from a centre clearance.

Why is that crap in my head?

Sampi was the real danger man for the Eagles that game as well.
