It has an eerie 2005 feel, the way we played for each other and just kept coming back. Only this time we don't quite have as much experience to pull it off, or any luck with umpires it seems.

I felt really disappointed (Just as I did after the Saints game) but so excited about our young players and the new roles Goodes is playing. If we're not back in the top 8 next year, it'll be a huge suprise to me.

Who would have thought at the end of that awful game against Carlton a few weeks ago that we'd lose to both St Kilda and Geelong by less than a goal. As disappointed as I am that we didnt win, I am also very proud of the team.

We may miss the finals this year, but we'll be the best team not to make the 8.

Couldn't agree more. And as I said to the bloke sitting next me immediately after the game:

"don't worry too much, we will be in the 8 in 2010, for sure"

I really don't want to dwell too much on this game. However, noting the performance of Gary Ablett Junior, if only Jarrad McViegh had played, I'm sure that his presence would have more than made up the 5 point difference.

Albeit, bear in mind also that unlike the St Kilda game, I sense that the Cats were the slightly better team, and that the 5 point margin may have flattered Sydney just a little because of some wooful goalkicking by Geelong, (witness Varcoe in particular)

Overeating and alcohol help I find. For a bit.

Oh but the anticipation!! So many of the players are kids and they stood up big time. Cheese is melting. But I have found that my opinions are not necessarily those of the coaching staff (withness McVeigh and Reg) so I trust them to know more than I do. Especially in the work in progress that took years and resulted in Lewie, who has to be up there for Most Improved. He has become such a pillar, whodathortit.

Don't think criticism of Leo is fully warranted. He did some amazing things up at the northern end.

Great to see Marty working out the Centre, he has always been a great kick for goal on the run, and proved it again last night. Marty is getting better and better.

Rhyce is now really taking on the sweeping back role. Again a work in progress within the team stucture.

No, I don't think I can be really disappointed. I mean for heavens sake, what is the Cats percentage?
Where are they on the ladder?
Where are we, and how much have we moved up within this year's standards in the last few weeks.

The kids are working well, the unit is coming together, its all about us enjoying (mostly) the ride as being members of the Sydney Swans Football Club. That's what this is all about.

There is someone on the ground last night I would like to give a big thumbs up to. Luke Ablett. He was really injured, bandaged up like a mummy to keep the knee stable, and he came back on, worked and worked. Not saying best on ground. I am saying he stayed in the team and did his best and it wasn't half bad.

I was at that close - another close one slips by. Really good signs for the "rebuilding" process.

I also thought Leo did well. Not a lot of possessions but some really good spoils and pressure. Especially for his first game this year!

LRT had a great game I thought as did Grundy again.

Just seems to take so much effort to get a goal!

Nice words. However, if the Ablett cousins had changed teams for the game, I predict Sydney would have won by 20 to 30 points.

Unfortunately yes. sigh. But do you really want a team that has to rely on a single player to "destroy" us by a whole 5 points? No, me neither.

Luke Ablett should be retained for his courage and selflessness

I think he may be sent in for a rebuild after last night. He was playing with parts of his body falling off as he was taking hits from the Cats and still managing to tap it out to a Swan for a goal. Well done Luke

Welcome back Bevo. Nice to see you again, tackling, with some return of confidence.

I'm watching it too after some Bill Grainger scrambled eggs....what is really obvious is how important these big games are for the kids. Both Mod and Nick showed some real composure in tight situations. Very impressive.

Corey and Enright really hurt us all game. I find it very hard to watch ballerina pants Hawkins skipping around - he needs a tutu.
