Last quarter just started here. Here we go with Barlow agian. He is a soft weak as piss pathetic non-competitor. He let down his mates today.

    oh yes and the umpring...

Have to give some credit to Collingwood for the constant pressure they kept up right around the ground and for the entire game. After a half decent first half, the Swans just became too constipated and as they were completely unable to create any quick thrusts forward, it just became too easy for Collingwood.

      A few minor positives...

Smith is continuing to improve, looked composed with the ball and certainly wasn't made to look daft at any point by Didak.

I really liked White's game in the context of one where his team was getting belted. Didn't get many chances up forward but worked hard to present as an option down the ground. Suggests he could "make it" as either a FF or a CHF.

      MOD was a decent contributor.

OK, so I've run out now...

(We might get to see Vez for one last game next week, given the injury to Moore - rr they might just bring Ablett back instead!!)

It was Goodes and then daylight for us today. ROK was OK and there were some decent cameos by Smith, MOD and LRT. The rest were soundly beaten all day.

By far our most disappointing player was Barlow. I just don't rate him as a footballer and wonder what we achieve by persevering with him. Another shocker from him today - just like Rhys Shaw's kicking.

Barry, Crouch and MOL have all made the right decisions to retire. I don't mind a farewell game next week but had our youngsters not all been injured I wonder if they'd all be afforded the luxury?

Collingwood are a very good team and I rate their chances to win the flag this year. The difference between them an us were the usual - speed and skill. Swans can match the good teams in close but what was evident today was that whenever the Pies kicked long or found space, we just couldn't go with them.

A bit of a reality check of where we're at I feel. A return to the 8 isn't as inevitable as some feel, I think there is at least another year of transition.

Just takes so much effort and time for us to get a goal. Goals really don't come easy for the Swannies.

Our midfield was really smashed in the second half.

Don't think Leo was awful at all. Started off a bit rocky but kept Medhurst quiet in the second half and took some good marks and contests. Barlow was awful as was Mike Pyke and Micky O very quiet. Anthony was too strong up forward. Jolly pretty average too.

The umpires reallly @@@@@@ us over!!!!

And I can't wait till these retirements. We seem to have lots of good youngsters who haven't being giving a go, forced to wait their turn for some aging players.

Looks good for next seasons, especially with so much money in the bag. Now we just need to get a few more to go, and we could have a competitive team again.

Agree with Hammo - Clearly a reality check today.
Goodes was a class above those around him.
Pies were winning it out of the centre and our Clanger count kept rising. It was officially at 39 at 3/4 time to Pies 25 !
Skill errors (not necessarily under a lot of pressure) killed the momentum all day.
It was very windy which made it tough but thats where the true skills are needed.

Smith did some very nice things. We needed Barlow and others to stand up ... they were poor today. A solid preseason and McVeigh back would make a huge difference.

We are just so slow. Watch the good sides these days and the move the ball quickly from one side to the other and then race it downfield, or do the same thing through the centre. We plod along and by the time we get down to our forward line (if we make it that far) there is no space. I think I said in the other thread we do need some fast outside players.

                    BAR'low"

Just arrived home after another defeat by the Pies. Surely todays game proved beyond all doubt BAR"low" is not up to it. Should be a candidate for delisting. Smith while good today needs to put on a bit of beef, needs to be stronger. ODwyer just Ok. Reg again played Ok but he too needs to beef up.
LRT was LRT but did some nice things not many though. I dont know why Luke Ball is not on the radar evn though we need some pace around the packs Kirky is not far off it and on todays performance JB is also struggling. We still need a strong backman, spend a lot on Lake, leave LRT as a backpocket.
Ball would help us out and we can then try for some brilliance around the midfield which we badly lack. Seems that Patrick is off the radar for some reason and I know that Carlton and Collingwood are sniffing around. Time to bite the bullet on a few of the drafts from a few years back, Brab,Laidlaw DOK and Thornton, if they havent cemented a spot now I think its bye by time. Also palying Pyke up foprward will never work, kick the ball tho whitey properly and he will do OK. Unless we do I can see another BBB with frustration settling in.

Announced over the weekend that he's re-signed for two years.

He's only been off the radar senior team wise because he's been not been getting long enough in the reserves to push his case. Last couple of outings he's been forced off before half-time.

It will be difficult to name our 2nd and 3rd players today. There was Goodes, then really no-one else. We looked so dumb against Collingwood. I know we took up to the Saints and Geelong, but somehow the Pies always make us look ungainly.

Had the Pies kicked on goal better, it would have been a huge blow-out. They have a very good chance at the flag this year.

There were a couple of positive moments from MOD and Nick Smith, but let's hope a good pre-season brings all our younger players up a notch.

Was in the paper this morning re-signed for 2 years along with Grundy, Meredith and White. Bird re-signed for 3 years.

It's not exactly like Collingwood are an old team either. It's probably fair to say their kids beat our kids, which means we should not look forward to ending this horrible run against them any time soon.

Definitely killing us for pace - pace in ball movement and leg speed. Whatever happens with the coaching thing, I hope we can start remove this stop and prop tendency from our games. It just kills us.

                              Positives:

Goodes - everything, wish we could clone him
                              LRT's marking
Jude - so hard at the ball
                              Smith - gun

                              Negatives

Barlow - so soft and has no skill
                              Hanneberry - very, very slow
Pyke - Is utter rubbish, no idea how he gets a game.
                              Moore's injury
Leo - time is up for this legend, sad but glad he is retiring
Bevan - tried hard but is still a hack

Games like today happen when you are turning over a list like ours, but still irritating as hell.

-Barlow is SOFT. The mark he dropped in the second quarter was weak as piss. Knowing Maxwell was bearing down on him, he actually closed his eyes and looked away and put up his hands pretending to put in an effort. It was embarrassing. Each time we think this guy is getting better he reminds of deficiencies as a player, which are largely mental and considerable. I would not be distressed if they delisted him.

                                - Stewie Maxfield draft some indigenous players FFS. Both time and excuses are running out.

                                - Leo Barry was truly awful today. Looked like a washed up old guy trying to relive his glory years. Funny that...

                                - Also note that Hanneberry is very very slow, but still did some nice things.

                                - Goodes was great today. If he was not out there, I would hate to think what the scoreline would have looked like. White, MOD Smith, Bevo and Grundy did some nice things. B2 was a bit off. The rest a mixed bag.

I just hate losing to Collingwood. They have a very strong team and could go all the way this year. Let's hope not.

                                1. Barlow may be soft (and horrible at times) but the marking attempt your talking about was a definite free kick for chopping the arms.

                                2. The young boys were great. MOD & Hanners were good contributors and will only get better. Speed is not everything in Hanners case as he is an inside mid FFS. Smith did a great job on didak and looked very composed.

                                3. Leo was far from the worst, took some strong and courageous marks and did some good stuff running it out of defense like he used to.

The only sensible things you said were about goodesy and not wanting collingwood to go all the way.

                                Anyway enough with you.

Now seriously im an umpire basher from way back but today was a disgrace. They crucified us all day and then tried to even the ledger when it was finished in the end with more awful decisions.
