I think Pyke should be learning the game in the reserves.

Yesterday's game shows that Barlow is miles away - just so weak.

This is absolutely correct. Playing senior footy isn't necessarily the right enviornment to work on aspects of your game, particularly if you're instructed not to kick the ball. As promising as Pyke's ruck contests are, what about marking, kicking, handballing, goal kicking, spoiling, filling a hole in the backline, knowing when to go forward? All key skills of a modern ruckman - even if you are the back-up.

Hopefully Currie is fit for round 1 next season so we can bring him on and allow Pyke to learn the game more in Canberra.

Jolly does look tired and his drop off in form will cost him an All Australian selection.
"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

To all the people out there that are saying that the "elders" should have been dropped ... go to hell.

        You have no respect.

We're NOT going to make the finals - those of us with a bit more footy brains than others realised this back in July.

Who cares if we lost to the wobbles or that we're going to lose to Brisbane. Let our heros go out playing.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Is anyone seriously saying that they should be dropped?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

There is no way that Magic, Crouch and Leo don't deserve a farewell game this week ... forget the result - this is our last chance to pay tribute to 3 wonderful players for our club and all 3 deserve to play!!!!

I would n't even mind Bazza come back for his farewell game.He could play on Jonathan Brown just to add more spice to a game that won't be a serious contest anyway. I think it would pull a few extra 1000 through the gate though. Nice to farewell these heroes off though. The Swans respect their players a lot more than other clubs.

Only if he promises to ko Brown. He's got nothing to lose!!!

Along with Pyke, probably our biggest non-contributor on the day - and throughout the season - on every measurement.
Really? Leads the Swans in goal assists, averaging over a goal per game, taking almost 6 marks a game, often taking the opposition's second best defender, and, as always, showing his knack for bringing other players into the game. He has been down on past form, but he's holding his place. He was poor against the Pies, but otherwise he has been a decent contributor.

Have I ever agreed with you on anything?

Probably not contributing any more than Davis did, but different standards apply.

Let's compare things with the end of 2002, where within a year Sydney were in a Preliminary Final, and within three years they were Premiers.

I have asked this question a number of times on this messageboard on different threads, and still no one can come up with an answer. Name me as of the latter part of 2002 who were the rising kids at the Swans? No answer I safely predict. Yet, here in 2009 the Swans have Hannebery, Jack, White, Pyke, Bird, O?Dwyer, Smith, and Veszpemi. Also there is the potential of Lewis Johnston, Brendan Murphy, and a top ten draft pick.
I went back to 2001 one year prior....some nice names there forming the core of our premiership team with Goodes, B1, Fosdike, ROK and Tadhg along with Benny, Jared, Leo, Magic and Kirky in the next group.

Kirky, Jude and Jolls can be our old men rivers like Stewie, Schaubs, Willo and Ball for the next press.

                        Plus
                        Amon (drafted 2000 debut 2002)
                        NOG (drafted 2000 debut 2002)
                        Schneider (drafted 2001 debut 2003)
Bevo (2002 rookie draft debut 2004)

(all taken from footywire, final siren so not sure on accuracy. Amon's draft year was listed incorrectly so there may be other errors/inaccuracies.)

He's been poor against the pies - a team with strong defensive pressure and pace - throughout their recent dominance of us.

Wow, I didn't realise he was averaging over a goal per game

As the "second" forward, 2-2.5 goals per game is acceptable across the AFL, but you have your standards I guess.

Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

Next year, we should request to play collingwood at the SCG....It would go along way in breaking the hoodoo! I honestly cant see us ever beating them at homebush and definately not at the G'. It is getting REALLY annoying the fact that we cant beat them, im so glad I avoided temptation and didnt go yesterday, even though it was a send off game for a few players.

Firstly, way to pull stats out of your arse. 2-2.5 goals per game is 44-55 goals a year. Most teams' leading goalkickers barely crack 50. Secondly, O'Loughlin is not playing as our "second" forward this year. At the moment Goodes is our first, White our second, Magic our third. Thirdly, he's also averaging almost 2 assists per game.

Magic is a long way from top form, but he has been far from useless. Seriously, some of the crap you spout...
