Still can't believe Carlton will get rid of Fev.

We don't really have any bait for a trade but we do have the capacity to pay all his contract. That has to be worth something to Carlton in cold hard cash and freeing up salary cap space for them.

Reading between the lines, I think Judd has had a lot to do with this decision.

A real relevant point and it adds to my doubt we will take him, as blokes can be a bit slack about footy and we tolerate them for a while, but we don't take clowns off the field.

Judd left WCE because of everything going over there. It was telling that when he wanted to shift back to Melbourne, he entertained four clubs - but bluntly told one other club he had no interest, much to the surprise of many. We won't say who for legal reasons, but they had a great 08 and fell away badly in 09 in the aftermath of celebrations. . . .

He's seen it before, thought Fev meant it was back again, and it seems to me our blokes won't cop that crap either.

Fev has indicated that he wants to go to either the Saints or Pies - both of which he believes are in the Premiership window. He's extremely close with Eddie so the Pies are a chance - and from a list perspective they've lost Rocca and don't believe Cloke is the answer. The Saints could give up pick 15 in a skinny draft - giving them Fev with Roo in the forward line and Kozi playing as a ruckman / forward...salary cap issues could be a hurdle though.

Roos is playing it like a good poker player - would he come out and say yep, we want him, pick us pick us! Everything he is quoted as saying seems very non-commital and open ended to me.

In fact it seems OBVIOUS that the Swans will make a play for Fev (to some degree)
But it's funny to watch those who are anti Fev convince themselves that it has been knocked on the head by Roos.

I would have thought that Longmire would have a fairly reasonable say in Fev and any other recruit/
At least a 50% say considering that he will inherit them in 12 months,,,,,,

Fev would be an immediate drawcard in Sydney in a period of falling attendances and the surprising revival of Thugby League. What has Fev done that rules him out completely for another club. I agree it would be very negligent not to interview him or his manager.

Seems the plan is to use our third round pick + what we get for Hall (probably another third rounder) for Seaby and Kennedy.

Seeing a lot of Hawthorn I'm not sure Kennedy is a player I'd be desperately chasing - slow and not exactly brilliant or penetrating kick. Would have thought he was behind Kirk, J.Bolton, Buchanan, Bird and probably even Schmidt (if fit) next year, so more likely in the plans for 2011 onwards. I'd be comfortable with that for a third round pick.

Says to me we're being realistic and focusing on 'value' trades for players 25 and under squeezed out of other clubs - so I'm guessing not positive about our chances of getting a Lovett.

Makes sense given we're only going to trade second round and higher draft picks, and possibly players like Barlow, Moore, Ablett (plus Hall).

Can see us looking at Kane Tenace as another player with some attributes we need, but could come cheap.

Reggi - what are your thoughts on McMahon being our 2009 Daffy? Must say that is keeping me up at nights - although if we got him for virtually nothing he'd at least offer another running halfback/midfield rotation option and is only 26.

Seems that Brabazon is gone (with Playfair) and Laidlaw and maybe DOK could push back to the rookie list.

Mocca will do just fine, he presents well, and he has shown us he has dash which is the vital ingredient. He is still a kid. He is smart. He keeps improving. He will be a marquise player in the near future.

The posturing is all part of the fun of trade week. I wouldn't be surprised if something like the Dogs third rounder gets on-traded for Seaby was the ultimate outcome.

If that's so, we are the only club in the league that doesn't! If there was another Judd or Ablett out there, of course we would want to get him.

Fev's good, but he isn't either of them, so the comparison is a bit dubious.

As for buying known trouble, we are in much more familiar territory. Why do it? Because we (as a club) have shown that former problem children can be turned around and add great value to the club. Fev could easily fall into that category. Or he may not. If we get him and it fails, he will be the first high profile recruit in a reasonably successful line to not come up, so on balance the risk is worth taking.

Look back just 12 months, there was much hand wringing and gnashing of teeth about recruiting Shaw, both for perceived on-field weaknesses and also the off-field stuff. I think most would now applaud the move as a great success for both parties. Why couldn't a heavily chastened, shell shocked Fev be the same?
