Which attributes:
1. his speed
2. his pace
3. he's quick
4. he can run fast
5. on so on
Not saying he's a great player but the only players we have with genuine speed still have their training wheels on, so don't be surprised if we go with an unwanted player that is simply available, who may fill a need.
We have a history of it - Playfair, Brennan, Spriggs, Chambers, Rogers, Bennett, Obst, Brockman, Tingay - I won't keep going.
We have chased him before so if Geelong let him go, don't be surprised.Comment

Working in NSW this week I picked up a newspaper and there was mention of talk about Carlton being interested in Barlow.Comment

My observation of Tenace is that he doesn't get near the footy often enough.Which attributes:

Totti, are you going stark raving mad?
Blake is a fair dinkum ordinary footballer. If Geelong had a better option he would not have played. Thompson said that Mumford tired towards the end of the season alluding to the fact that if he had come up he would have been ahead of Blake.
My latest memory of Blake was the ball falling in his arms just on the forward side of the centre square in the GF. He crapped himself and just turned around and kicked to who knows where.Comment

Huge hypothetical here, as we haven't been mentioned in any Stokes trades, but would anyone be satisfied with pick 22 for Stokes? Is that too much? I think he'd cover a pretty big need for us, a very good goal sneak/small forward.Comment

I'm not sure on Stokes. He seemed to play his fair share of ordinary games in 2009, and yes he does play the odd blinder. My thoughts are that he is OK when the team is running and he can run onto the footy, but when the going gets tough......does he win his own footy.
Interesting that he was OK to go for the GF but they went with Brynes who was a much maligned player in the eyes of Geelong fans.Comment

Shaw had (still has, really) ordinary disposal but we recruited him regardless, because he has added something with his leg speed. He actually looks quicker than he probably is because the others around him are so slow.
It's easy to dismiss players for what they're not - yeah I'd prefer Judd to Tenace but we have to be realistic about how we're going to address weaknesses without much to trade away.Comment

Based purely on 2009, your comment about Shaw's footskills isn't terribly fair. Towards the end of the H&A season I heard one commentator say that he had more effective kicks than anyone else in the competition. Sure, the definition of an effective kick can be a bit misleading and I am not going to argue that Shaw is one of the top dozen or so kickers in the competition, but there was little to really get frustrated with in his kicking this season.Shaw had (still has, really) ordinary disposal but we recruited him regardless, because he has added something with his leg speed. Which attributes are you talking about? Have you ever seen him play?
