McGlynn, Kennedy, Ball, and Seaby would be handy, handy pickups. The more I have heard about Seaby's price the better. A third rounder should do it, he has a good kick and can ruck. Ball is someone we need to replace someone like Kirky. Kennedy and McGynn would also add some depth and strength to our line-up.

I read we're demanding a 2nd round pick for Hall - while unlikely, such a coup would go a long way to helping our prospects of getting some of these players in. Maybe the Dogs will actually relent on this if they grab an additional second round pick themselves for Everitt."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Agree Totti. If we end up with 2 of those guys without parting with a 1st or 2nd round pick we'd have done very well.

Talk of developing the list for a serious tilt in 2012 is pretty defeatist. Why not a tilt before then - in which case, Fev is a pretty attractive proposition. We were marked down as likely spooners in 2003, but within two years had a flag after credible finals performances in the previous two years. The Cats looked like they were shot ducks after the trauma of 05 and their pathetic 06, and now look where they are. St Kilda were accidental top 4 last year, belted in two finals and then five minutes away from a flag this year.
It can turn very quickly, so why not get a gun 28 year old who can kick goals, and who might respond (and also probably be more receptive than ever before) to Kirky's karmic ways?
It has worked well twice before (snare a big ugly forward with issues from Victoria), so why not a third time?
The only real knock on Fev playing wise is that he hasn't really fired on the SCG, but being there a bit more regularly could only help.
Get him I say. If Carlton are serious about moving him on (it is possible they are just rattling his cage and playing to the blood baying media), then they have a weak hand - he's expensive, and so can't easily be picked up anywhere else.Last edited by SwansFan1972; 30 September 2009, 01:56 PM.Comment

And what would you be prepared to lose in return for Fevola?Comment

I have seen a suggestion that Carlton have shown interest in my boy Ed! Despite his patchy showing for the Swans I still think he has real potential but like Grundy and White, it wasn't until they were put in a particular position and given some responsibility for it over time that they began to show us what they could do. Ed has failed as a utility player being given different jobs each week and during games, and he finished up the season with no confidence at all. Sadly I can't see how he is going to make it with the Swans, especially if they bring in more running talls, so it might be a really good move for him to have opportunity at another club.
Ed for Fevola!! Actually if the Swans took Fevola I would tear up my membership card - if I had one.Last edited by rojo; 30 September 2009, 02:23 PM.Comment

These things are rarely about what we would be happy to give up - it all depends on what they want.
If they need to offload him, they may not be as hard nosed as one would expect in a normal situation. They might be happy to just get his salary picked up. More so if Fev himself feels he needs to get out to sort himself out - how could they reasonably keep him on in those circumstances?
Faced with a 700k reluctant hero who may not feel the environment there would ever be conducive to him being in control, the pressure to trade will be pretty strong (at this point I'd expect some to raise a comparison to ROK - but the circumstances are completely different - ROK just wanted to go home and didn't have any major issues with the club, hence it was easier to settle back down).
So - back to the question - what would I give up to get him? Outside the obvious untouchables (1st round pick, Goodes, White), and those we could safely say they aren't interested in (Kirk, Boltons, anyone over 28), we should consider anyone else they nominate as fair game - and then almost certainly trade with them. Kids, developing or not, and midfielders pop up all the time - Coleman medallists (even troubled ones) are pretty rare and can win you more games than they lose you.
Whatever happens, it is all mighty interesting hey! Hopefully we aren't in for a re-rerun of last year's miserable trade period - which was all foreplay and no satisfaction! Even though ROK staying did warm our hearts - and most of us were thrilled/relieved he stayed - on principle, it was a tragedy for him that he couldn't get his preference - which is what any of us only ever want really).Comment

What a relief! The danger was that he could have hijacked the player development agenda and killed morale. I liken it a bit to getting Cousins. Both great players but what they take is more than what they give.Comment

While this may be true if you treat them singularly , as can be seen with a young side that carlton has otherwise been over the last few years, a coleman medallist does not also mean instant success.Comment

I don't see how having him in the team would stifle long term development. If he was to play until he was 32-33 (and he has been relatively durable over his career) then five years out of him would be a pretty good return. And (Hartijon) who would he be keeping out of the team? We've lost two forwards this season, and Davo the year before - there are vacancies there!
Via the media, Roosy seems to have shut the door on recruiting him, but that could just as likely be a ploy aimed at the Blues - "we're not interested, so who else are you going to deal with" being the subliminal message to get a softer deal. The Hall saga showed that subliminal messaging had its place in Sydney this season, morphing into reality pretty fast.Comment
