Wow. Haven't been on RWO all day and all of a sudden we have three new Swans! To get the trades that we have done, yet still end up with 3 picks inside the top 40 (draft order reshuffles pending), we've done pretty well to use our extra cap space from all the retirements to work in our favour, even though we certainly could've gotten a better deal with Jolly.

Hawks and Cats fans on BF seemed genuinely disappointed, always a sure sign we've traded well.

Surely if the Brisbane deal doesn't get done we should make a play for him.
No need to offer pick 14, if the Lions deal falls through and we are the only party wishing to talk then it will be a junk trade just to get rid of the $1.4 million large off the books.

Can you imagine a Fev having to play at Carlton, where his team mates didn't want hom and the club has had enough. It would be wasted money on their behalf so they will just off load for what they can get.

It's no deal from me at pick 14, at pick 50 or 50 odd I would be tempted.

As ALWAYS we get completely dicked at trade week....we could have had Mumford for NOTHING!!!! NOTHING!!!!!

Someone tell me why in the world we would give up pick 28 FFS? It defies belief.

We get 14 for Jolly, yet Burgoyne is worth 9 AND Mark Williams....Lovett is worth 15 and M. bloody Williams is worth 16.

          Absolute insanity.

At worst we could have had Mumford for 38 and had 3 picks under 30. Sheesh!!!!!!

You do realise if Mumford was going to the PSD, Melbourne and Richmond would have enough salary cap room to afford his demands?

We took the low risk option and i'm quite happy with that.

If we gave 38 for Mumford it would have ended up with 28 going to Hawhtorn. As someone has already said youhave to look at all our trades as a whole, not individually, and when you do you will agree that we have done well

I think the brissy deal will be done as they will find someone to replace Rischitelli in the deal, but in the end if 14 piques Carltons interest, i dont think it would be the worst thing for us to trade it.

Maybe we could. And in the meantime spent until early December sweating it out on whether anyone else would enter the PSD more attractive to the Demons (who are reportedly significantly under the minimum salary cap spend and showed strong interest in Mumford).

And of course, we would have pissed off Geelong in the process, a club that always seems to conduct itself pretty creditably, by poaching one of its valued young players without providing close to fair consideration.

And when, in a few years time, one of our young players is targeted by another club, that club might feel no guilt at luring them into the PSD for no consideration. Or the player himself mght feel no guilt being so lured. The failure of Carlton to even try and trade sensibly for ROK a year ago seemed to be a factor in him deciding to stay in the end - which was a great outcome.

However fair a club plays at trade table, there is always a chance they will get shafted at some point. But overall I reckon trade karma is a pretty powerful force and over the long run a club is far better off trading fairly than thinking in terms of short-term selfishness.

I'm not sure what Hawthorn's strategy is but they now don't have a selection until pick 39!

Anyway, I think we have done quite well this trade period, and I'm looking forward to paying up in 2010!

Pelican got what he deserved. I really hope those Hawthorn supporters on BF are right and JK blossoms into a complete gun!

When it comes to the crunch the player is also usually reluctant to put themselves in limbo for another 2.5 months as well - not knowing where you will end up and worrying about doing your knee playing beach volleyball with mates in November and suddenly see 4-year $1 million deals taken off the table.

I don't recall seeing anywhere that Mumford threatened to go into the PSD if Geelong didn't trade him - I think it's certain he would have stayed without the trade.
