Hall on MMM

The glass half full on this is that if Hall was still around I doubt we would have seen White getting lumped with the responsibility of key forward quite so quickly.
White stepping up really hasnt dimished our forward stocks and I doubt swapping White for Hall would have made much difference to the outcome of games since he has left.
Hall is now a better match for a team that is challenging right now.
I love Hall as a player but I dont agree that Kirk and Roos should have said nothing to the media etc but a better way to handle it would have been to talk to him first behind closed doors and tell him what you are going to say to the media, so he doesnt feel as if its the media and the club against him. From what I heard on halls interview it doesnt seem like the public response from Roos and Kirk came after any discussion with Hall.Comment

My 10 cents' worth:
The umpire should have pinged Staker.
Baz should not have whacked him.
The whole series of events is a minor tragedy, especially as Baz seemed to have turned over a new leaf and managed his demons, becoming a valuable role model in the process.
There was no way the incidents were going to be handled behind closed doors; this is the Swans in 2009, not say Carlton a decade ago. The club could not be seen to be endorsing or excusing what Baz did in any way.
Roos and Kirk have every right to feel bitterly disappointed at Baz's regression. And I take note of Mick Malthouse's comment that if people like Roos and Kirk can't get Barry Hall back on track, he himself is not going to try.
He remains one of my favourite Swans and I regret both that he has left and has gone backwards in terms of on-field conduct.
I wish him the best for the future and hope he can play somewhere else and finish his career in a fitting way.
I am saddened by the whole tawdry episode.Comment

My point on the "behind closed doors" aspect is that I don't think the club's representatives should be making comments on Hall in the media. What should have happened first is that within the club the full discussions around Hall's behaviour and ramifications should have been completed first. Once that was done then the club should talk to the media.Comment

People seem to forget that it was Hall himself that said after the Rutten incident that he does not know why he does it and can't guarantee it wouldn't happen again. Under those circumstances what option did the club have.
Also to those who want to downgrade the Staker incident, you aren't even on the same page as Barry himself who admitted on numerous occasions that it wasn't good...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

I wonder if Barry will be at the Club Champion dinner? He is, after all, a retiring Swans player.Comment

Really hard to condemn any of the players involved when you know nothing about what had already been said behind closed doors over the preceeding year and a half.Comment

Possibly a bit of both, possibly one or the other. But the outside perception is that it wasn't managed first and that's the perception that I think they should have managed better.Last edited by Lohengrin; 28 August 2009, 05:14 PM.Comment
