It pissed Luffy off a bit on Saturday night (on MMM commentary). He said that we lose important "time" every time they rebounce the ball. Why isn't the clock wound back as well? A minute at the end of the game sometimes makes a huge difference to the result.

    Smart man that Troy Luff.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Big screen replays were selective but often showed poor decisions, to Swans detriment most of the time.

How did umpiring appear on TV? Often shows things you miss at the game.

What was the Jude free against for at the pivitol moment, late Q4?
Could have been over-come if it weren't for an ensuing brain fade or two....

BTW, what % of BL's goals were from frees? I guess 30% Ours?

      Grumble.
      Goals from frees:
      Syd 0
      BL 3

The Jude free against, was in the back, although Luff reckons it was a fair takle, and should've been dropping the ball. I think they agreed it was 50/50 and possibly went the wrong way.

        Senior guys who had poor seasons need to bounce back are ;

        Marty Mattner,Ed Barlow,Ted Richards,Paul Bevan & Jarred Moore
I wouldn't put Marty in the bracket of having poor seasons. His season reminds me of Pebbles in a lot of ways. There were some quiet games, but most of the times he dominated his opponent (or held them to minimal disposals, etc).

This is pretty good and the pictures are everything we haven't seen yet.

Awesome images. Look for the thumbnail icon if you don't want to sit through the slideshow.

Fantastic shot of Kirky's backwards one-hand grab, from which he goaled. Can't believe no-one mentioned that yet - a highlight of the game for me.

Was at the SCG Saturday and still coming down from the emotion. Took a couple of Brazilian friends along to their first game - they loved it. The Swannies are still gaining new converts! Let's hope those promising signs convert to results next year.

Thanks for that Primmy. I've been away and haven't watched the tape yet. Oh how I wish I could have seen that game live but will watch the replay on Wed. am and hopefully see some of the after-match highlights then.

When you watch these players for so long they almost feel like mates. I wanna have a kick-to-kick with them.

I think the Swans did extremely well to be as close as they were at the end considering the Lions had three extra players in yellow shirts.

Having got that off my chest, I believe we have a lot to look forward to next year, despite last nights and the overall seasons results.

Finally - Farewell Magic, Leaping Leo & Crouchy. Three true Swans greats. You all deserved every bit of the accolades and recognition that you got last night, boys. You'll be missed but never forgotten.
Agree with your sentiments. I watched the Hawthorn/Bombers game and the Hawks got screwed by the Umpires too.Jeff Kennet was ropable and rightly so.The free kicks were so biased and one sided they definately affected the result. I mention this not to defend the Umpiring just to counter the idea that we are the only side that has to play a team with 19 men on the field. Really though, the umpiring standard is killing our game. The thing that really gets me is how well the Grandfinal is umpired because the umpires throw away the book and just let the boys play. Self umpiring might be a better option.Players know in 90% of times if they have infringed. It sounds impossible but could it get any worse than it is now? Maybe an umpire there for the disputed frees.

Of course, in all likelihood it will only be Thornton, and maybe Pyke, that gets an elevation, meaning 5 active picks. Factor in the possibility of Gordon being preselected in the ND (like Bird), and that could be down to 4 live picks.
Agree, four would be about the maximum come draft day with maybe a spot left over for the PSD.

Don't we also have two going onto the veterans list this year which allows us extra rookie spots that can be nominated to play. May mean Pyke and one other can still be a rookie and be elevated at any time to play.

Just can't see them cutting further than 1 or 2 at most and this likely to be Playfair and Braba.

Bloody hell. I've never felt this way about retirements, really. Kells et al were just as I was starting to follow the Swans, so it was significant without being emotional. Sad, sad, sad.

I've got to admit though, that last picture gave me some hope: the face looks a lot more like Roos in that shot than any others I've seen. Still a bit generic, but not nearly as bad as I thought it was.

But two of Kirk, Goodes and Jude can be put onto the veterans list as well, so it's really not that significant. I mean, Roos may opt to keep them off, but that wouldn't make much sense to me, as we'd be trading two list places and extra salary cap room (only half of the vet listed players' salary is counted in the salary cap) for two rookie places.
