It didn't impact me, but I think they can pat folks on the back midweek at other functions (and that's purely aimed at the club!).
I'm sure but I guess the aftermatch was the farewell around the ground. It would have been nice but how do you cater for that size event and the numbers that would have been involved. Punt Road anyone???? Even then it couldn't fit us all in after the GF.
There are different levels of membership and involvement with the club that come with different benefits. The Chairman's function is just one example. The noble functions aren't open to all members.

So if I buy a Sydneysider or Redback I get to rub knuckles with Dicky.
      Wow. Whoppti la la.
      I'd rather an aftermatch function.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

100% agree. If you aren't happy then go and follow the new Sydney team.

You can give him an earful about the lack of an aftermatch over the first dance at the B&F.

That seems a little over the top, doesn't it? I think it was a poor move, that's all- it's a personal pet hate of mine, I have no issue with different benefits for different membership levels but it just erks me is all.

Don't think it is that easy. I am a Redback (actually two Redbacks) and have been for more than a decade but I didn't get any invitation to any post match function this week. (Not that I am bothered - they are not really "my thing" either.)

If it was an invitation only affair, sounds like it was sponsors or maybe life members rather than run-of-the-mill members.

I'm not having a go at the shoulder rubbers, I just think that those extra events are better suited to midweek/before/whatever- just not replacing something that was previously accessible to all

As I said, I don't do aftermatches anyway, I was just feeling sorry for folks like Annie- and that's something at the club, not at folks attending.

Perhaps it is, but I just don't get the after match thing. I've never attended one and am unlikely to.

And if there is any round where the players should be cut some slack it's after round 22.

I didn't think you were Stell. I totally understand your POV. Until this year, I only ever done a GF breakfast in 2005 and a trivia night, but I have really enjoyed the functions at Club Swans and the couple of aftermatch's I've attended this season. I don't go all the time but the Sat arvo games ones have been a good way to extend the evening.
I'm pointing out that it would have been very difficult to cater an A/M function last week given the event of 3 retirees and the numbers of attendees that would have wanted to come plus the players are tired and emotional. Their families were all there for their last game. Including all the ex-players that were there.
Look at the B&F, the club has changed venues to accommodate more attendees plus the HofF so in terms of people who want opportunities to be more involved, they have certainly been there.

My kids absolutely loved them. Amongst others, is one of the reasons I haven't been a member the last few years.

I hope Club Swans survives. It's a nice venue. I really enjoy the functions hosted by Craig Davis when we play interstate matches.

C'mon, Sydney members, get along to Club Swans, have a meal, buy a few drinks, and enjoy yourselves!

I've only ever been to one function, 1996 after the Swans beat Hawthorn in the Qualifying final. I'm from Melbourne and after match functions aren't much my thing either. That said, if you are a member of a club, then you are entitled to attend that club's functions. Perhaps the Swans need to get members to book or something but they should never EVER exclude their members. That is why you are a member.

Another reason I used to like going to the after-match functions in the MA Noble was that it gave time for the traffic to clear.
Going straight home (or going to a function away from the ground if there was one) involves waiting for ages in bumper to bumper traffic.

They should make the most of the Victor Trumper rooms, thats if they aren't currently in use.
