I heard a couple of months back that the AFL was keen on Sydney opening the AFL season with a game against Essendon at ANZ. There was a bit of toe-stepping as ANZ was happy to accomodate the larger crowd with the AFL, shunting the scheduled NRL matches off to one side. I don't know if there is any truth to that rumour though.

It won't be St Kilda or Geelong - they will be playing each other

I think the 2 opening games are set in stone....

Thursday Night - Richmond V Carlton
Friday night - St Kilda V Geelong

For our first game I reckon it will be...

Sydney V Essendon at ANZ on the opening Saturday night of the season.

Sydney vs Essendon would be a great start to the season. Here's hoping that we get a favourable draw this year! Can we please only play collingwood and adelaide once? I'll take Port twice, Richmond, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Fremantle, West Coast all twice.

Hawks in round one and Carlton in round 2 or 3 would be nice.

Two trips out west? Lets play the Pies twice and win both times!

That was one of the first things I thought of when the Saints won.
At least we won't get them round one at Etihad. finally!!!

Would be nice, but the Bombers will have McVeigh and Lovett-Murray suspended as well, so not that bad a choice if the rumors are true.

Demons or Port on the other week.

Big Footy reporting Bombers on Saturday night at SCG.

When is the 2010 fixture released? Some over there are are saying 23rd Oct (last year 24th) whilst others are saying this week.

                    Help appreciated.

Why do you say that? I thought it would be better to play the better teams coming off a shorter pre season, than the weaker teams who we'll hopefully beat anytime we play them.

Certainly a couple of blockbusters early on to get some big home crowds and memberships sold!

Winning builds confidence. It didn't help playing against the Saints this year.

Not quite in the class of Buddy or Juddy though!

Had been thinking of Essendon but more along the lines of Lloyd's suspension. Then I remembered he retired. And there's a good chance of McVeigh and or NLM getting themselves suspended later in the season so there could be more good opportunities to play them.

Why can't we get an easy break like Freo at the SCG on a sunny Sunday afternoon?
