Playfair will be the Kym Beazley of the Swans. Under-appreciated at the time by fans and colleagues alike. But upon reflection he will be considered to be the fundamental glue that held us together while we rebuilt !
Any other key forward we could snare?

mids is the prob
Our forward line is pretty good compared to both doggies, collingwood and geelong. I am not saying better but with goodes down there in particular we could win a premiership next year with this forward line. In my view ditto for the backs although i would really like one more top notch running defender (Kennelly please!).
Our problem will be untried ruck combination and a midfield full of players either too old or too young. If though McVeigh and Malceski step up and Kennedy really improves ala Shaw/Mattner then we could be very close next year. However i don't see this happening - we need a real ball winner , who breaks the lines and can run like the clappers. The only player who could do this is Goodes and he is getting to old these days. Maybe Jack could really step up - i don't know but someone has too if we are to really threaten the top four. An extra proven small or mid forward would be great - Robbo may help - but i suspect he will be more of a Nick Daffy than a Craig O'Brien.Comment

Just as a little side note on this thread, just curious here, what would be a 'realistic' view from the club and fans and Jesse himself for the amount of goals he kicks in 2010? Lets say, hypothetically, he plays all 22 games, and plays them all out of the goalsquare, how many goals for the season would be a pass mark for him? My guess is 50-55 and we should be happy with that. Anything more is a bonus.
He'd want to start doing something then.Bloods

At present our forward line looks passable at best. Neither Johnston or Currie has played a game yet, and White while he has enormous potential is still relatively raw. Playfair who knows? I'm not seeing him as a key part of the forward line, nor that dependable. Worst case scenario - Goodes or White sustains a medium to long term injury. Suddenly it looks ultra-skinny in attack. It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

I think a realistic comparison would be with 2000-2001, when O'Loughlin and Goodes were the key forwards. In the former year they had 53 and 40 respectively, in the latter it was 35 and 34.
I think 40-odd would be about right for White.Comment

In 2010 my guess is that we can still obtain 140ish goals from the top 5 players. Interesting that the top 5 goal kickers all came from tall players.......nothing above 16 goals came from a small player at the Swans in 2009
Saints in comparison kicked 250 goals amongst their top 5 players.
Here is a stab in the dark at my 2010 top 5 goal kickers..........and it is a big call because I have three small players averaging 20 goals....which is not the trend for Swans teams..........I have no idea who the other tall will be who kicks us our goals but hoping Johnston or Grundy etc smashes 30 goals and then we are looking dangerous.

Goodes A 45
White J 45
Moore 20
Ablett 20

You've forgotten an obvious goal kicker in Veszpremi and then a couple of ruckmen - probably Seaby and/or Currie - playing a fair bit up forward this year to offset the loss of Jolly.
McVeigh will hopefully contribute 20+ goals from midfield.
You say we're well short of the top 5 sides. Well that's no suprise considering we missed the finals last year and are rebuilding. Accept that fact and you'll feel better about things. Short of that have a bex and lie down."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

McVeigh depending on his role will be a close to 20goals..............but I thought he would have done that easy in 2009?
Seaby or Currie kicking more than Jollys 16 goals (2009) will be a pleasing sight but unlikely me thinks
Johnston and Vespa 20 plus will each maybe required........but I think that Ablett will be given more HF play in 2010........Ablett only played 13 games in 2009 of which he scored 8......he can raise that to a goal a game in 2010
Ablett especially early on in the season should be given a shot me thinks....reasons being is that he is a senior player now and he has got a strong long kick and a decent lead/mark so I think he will have a more open attacking role.......if there is such a role at the Swans
But Ryan O and Moore will need to come to the party .........and tehy should be depended on......ie given the responsibility to achieve more goals........they can do it if given HF / F Pocket roles
Keiran Jack scored 13 goals from approx 20games ie top 8 from memory in 2009 for the Swans........considering he tagged most of 2009 he must be a chance of 20 goals if McGlynn, Kennedy and or Smith have to tag more in 2010....."be tough, only when it gets tough"

I didnt realise that McGlynn actually has 30 goals from 48 games and prefers to play as a small forward although is handy as a midfielder / tagger
