Saints have a much better chance of beating us there than at the SCG. I hate ANZ, it's a souless @@@@hole.Comment

I'm not sure why you think that. The last time we played them at the Small Cricket Ground, in front of 27,805 people, we lost. The last time we played them at ANZ, in front of 63,369 people, we won.Comment

I for one cannot wait for round 1 and to play the Aints in Sydney. We have a great opportunity for a big crowd if we market it well.
Playing the 2nd best team in the comp, round 1 with all our new players...it is a promoters' dream.
Bring on Round 1!!Last edited by Matt79; 25 October 2009, 09:31 PM.Swannies for life!Comment

My feelings exactly. I'd love to see a really big crowd. I hope they market the game properly.Comment

I cannot understand what the fuss is with all the draw. Victorian teams can realistically only play outside Victoria a maximum of 6 times (Twice in Perth and Adelaide and once in Sydney and Brisbane). If your team is good enough it should be able to beat anybody on their day at any ground, time etc. Afetr all every ground is still made out of grass with 4 big sticks at each end lol. People seem to always go on about how Collingwood have the most favourable draw, well if so then why was the last time they won silverware was way back in 1990 (Nearly 20 years ago!) If anything you would think Collingwood would need a favourable draw because it's been that long lol!Indeed summary so far.....
We travel to Adelaide twice
We play Doggies twice --> ACT/Sydney
The top three only play each other once
Opening 'blockbuster' (ho hum) Geelong vs Bombers
I presume we will play most of the top eight twice again...and travel to the Shell Scum Stadium as usual
How can this competition be serious when the draw is just so imbalanced? There is no attempt to even out the draw under the auspices of "everyone wants to play Collingwood" and all the other blather...this team has to have this fixture and so on.
The AFL says every team has requests and they cannot keep everyone happy!
Stuff special requests and keeping teams happy, how about a fair draw?
The matches were supposed to even out over a period but this seems to have dropped off entirely now.Comment

The unfairness of the draw is overrated. Teams finish pretty much in order of ability. Nearly every year the top four teams go on to play off in the preliminary finals. Often teams drop out of the finals in their home and away finishing order. There are very few "boil overs" in finals as the higher team normally wins. If the draw has such an enormous impact, where is the team that by way of an unfair draw have finished low in the eight but have gone on to dominate the finals? Conversely, where are the teams who have finished in the top two or four (perhaps seemingly via easier draws) and have subsequently dropped out quickly in the finals when they strike the supposedly superior teams who have been hampered in their finishing position by unfavourable draws? It rarely happens,
While I agree that last year our draw was tough, as it normally seems to be for some reason, I think we finished about where our performances predicted we'd be. By the same token I wouldn't knock back a season where we got to play a reasonable number of the bottom teams twice. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment
