That 6 becomes 7 if Playfair doesn't make the cut.
A certain T Kennelly is still on that list. So unless he has a late change of heart (or the Swans decide to keep him on the list just in case), we have 7 spots to fill, with the possibility of 8 if Playfair isn't fit.

Doesn't he want to go back to Victoria though. So that may be the reason he passes on the SWans.

Has he said that? Presuming the OP about him visiting the Swans earlier this week is correct, you'd have to suppose he isn't completely averse to coming to Sydney. Why waste his and others time if he has no desire to come here. He could still find another offer / location / facilities / prospects more enticing but until he comes out and says he only wants to move to a Melbourne club, we're still in the running.

Can't see Roosy doing a "Scott Russell" on him, though. Doesn't seem like his, or the current administration's style. And there wouldn't be much point for a salary in the realm that Bradshaw can probably still command, especially with a club like Carlton desparate for anyone resembling a full-forward.

Assuming Sydney and Carlton are both interested, it will probably come down to a lifestyle decision on the part of the Bradshaws. If he knows he wants to settle in Melbourne post-retirement, he may be loathe to move to Sydney for just a couple of years, especially with 4 children at or near to school age. But he's not originally from Melbourne, so he may well see himself retiring to a country town post retirement.

Alternatively, the club might be able to dangle another carrot of the possibility of a coaching type role post retirement. We're well in need of someone to knock the forward line into shape.

Liz, well the only place I read that was a post on big footy. Yes I know it is the last place you would rely on accuracy for information.

I think what persuaded me was that an article somewhere said that he had young kids and I thought why would he want to come to Sydney for 2 years then move on to Victoria.

Money perhaps. I really hope he does come to us though.

The idea of a coaching role would make alot of sense once his career finishes. I imagine he would get on well with Andrew Ireland so as you said, it will be up to the Bradshaws in terms of long term goals and I can't ever imagine Roos would dtaft him like what happened to Snotty Russell.

Bradshaw quits Lions | The Australian

BRISBANE full-forward Daniel Bradshaw appears set to join Sydney after discussions yesterday with the Swans, including coach-in-waiting John Longmire.
Just how Sydney lands the key forward remains the burning question, but the Swans are likely to convince him to remain out of contract and be available to them with the fifth selection in the pre-season draft.

I'd be happy if he survived 2, we have the cash to throw at him.

I think that's just it. I don't have wild expectations of Bradshaw booting 70 goals for us in 2012, and I doubt if the club does either-- we're calling it a 3-year contract to make it more attractive to him, I hope it's front-ended somewhat (or at least heavily performance-based at the back end), and we can always renegotiate down the track (a la Fosdike) if it's apparent by the end of 2011 that he's run his race.

The first 3 clubs in the PSD have no real fear for me, but why wouldn't North Melbourne want to nab him? There's a close connection with their new coach, they have salary cap space if they can find the cash (they residually pay closer to 92.5% than 100%), and to magically say 'youth policy' and 'rebuilding' doesn't mean that you don't want a quality older player who provides structure and on-field leadership. Sydney being a case in point.

                    Remind me of timing?

If Playfair has until 13 November to "prove" fitness for 2010, how do the various drafts Bradshaw might enter relate to that date.

One aspect in favour of Bradshaw is his experience in the twin tower forward role. If we are potentially moving towards that model over the next 5 years with White, Johnson, Currie, Searby etc, having his on-field experience of that set up would be valuable during the next two years.

would have preferred Luke Ball........especially wih Kirk probably only 2010 in him and and J.Bolton maybe 2yrs if he is lucky

                      BUT

Bradshaw allows us to keep Goodes free and on the ball in 2010........and that is massive in itself.....Bradshaw has had a lot of injuries in the last 14yrs......only 220 games....but he is as solid as anyone we could hope for in 2010 or 2011 to play upfront

just hope he doesnt age massively next year as he is actually 31yrs old in a few weeks

Appropo absolutely nothing, LIZ, what exactly happened with Scotty Russell. I know we were pleased enough to get him at the time, but there was something really wrong, and I remember he became very very unpopular with everyone and that includes the players. We assumed it was a "play out my career for money, but I really can't be bothered" issue. Came home with a thud at the CC dinner when his departure announcement was barely acknowledged by the crowd. It was almost shocking.

Can anyone enlighten me on this?

If this is the scenario then I won't lump that on on Bradshaw. He seems like a man who had principles. He frustrated me at times, but with grudging respect. I don't think I have ever heard anyone say anything negative about him at all. He sure can play.

is my understanding right that Bradshaw has only an offer for 2010/11 with the Lions ie if he leaves do we have to give anything in return to the Lions?? ie no draft picks etc

If we get Bradshaw, we don't give the Lions anything.

No, Jonathan Brown plays that role at Brisbane.

Swans picked him up in the PSD very much against his wishes. It was known he'd agreed to terms with, and was keen to go to, a Melbourne club just after us in the PSD.
