IMO. He'll be a swan because....
    1) He want to.
    2) He wants to live and settle his large young family in Sydney.
    3) He's a veteran with a maximum of 3 years in him.
    4) The Swans play trade week etc fairly and don't white ant other clubs.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

This is the one. If the positions were reversed there's no way we'd take Bradshaw, so hopefully the other teams show him the same respect.

It looks like you guys are excited about Bradshaw and from Brisbane Lions United, I hope you look after him well. You got yourselves the best kick for goal in the AFL.

I think the AFL are able to do it because, basically, clubs play in a league run by the AFL, and in order to participate in said league, they have to follow the AFL's rules. Now, if a club really wanted to sign a bloke on a contract, they could. They could write up a contract, grab the bloke's signature, and hand it into the AFL. The AFL of course won't like this, and it is within their power, as it is their league, to enforce draft pick penalties, withhold financial assistance, give them crappy draws, or even kick them out of the league.

Hell, the clubs are basically owned by the AFL, so any contract with a club is probably a contract with the AFL anyway, and if that's the case the AFL would be well within their right to refuse to validate a contract offer.

"As a player, I'm not allowed make derogatory remarks about the pitch or curator - but I'm told a friend of mine told another friend that it was an absolute disgrace and a dog of a wicket."
Spida used that one to criticise the umpires. NIce try I thought, but he got fined.

This whole discussion is why the Players' Assoc is pushing for free agency, but the league doesn't go for it because it upsets their equalization measures. I'm with the league on this. I'd hate to be talking player trades 12 months of the year. And as BSA5 says, it's the League's league and you play by their rules.

I'm amazed that it doesn't seem to have occurred to Melbourne to recruit Bradshaw until he agreed to go to Sydney. How pathetic is that?

I seriously doubt that Melbourne are even thinking about Bradshaw. (I know they didnt rule it out, but they havent declared much interest). They have a clear youth policy, would much rather go for a Thorp, Smith, Tenace, etc. And plus, if they did pinch him Roos would go on a murdering rampage in the streets of Melbourne.

When it was the VFL, that's exactly how it worked, players could transfer mid-season. I think until the tranfers deadline which was about the middle of the season.

In a fashion they had free agency for a couple of years "The 10 year rule", it's the only reason North Melbourne won 2 flags in the 70's.

                        DIRTY DOCKERS!!

The Dockers are interested in former Lion Joel Macdonald and have not ruled out Daniel Bradshaw and Ball if the cards fall that way.

There is a good article about Bradshaw on the AFL website now (someone PLEASE teach me how to post links) and he makes it pretty clear that Sydney is where he wants to live and wouldn't be too rapt in anyone else picking him up.
