It was mainly pictures and a very few words as one would expect for a promotion piece.

It was on the Swans Website for a few years as a pdf

Mind you, you are correct in the repetitive point. But as we get older it takes repitition for it to sink in.
come to think of it - I read the Plugger book about a year after the SDTT - I just thought this is the same as the other book - I recall it even had some of the same photo's - anyway I guess we can say that Main is basically updating his Funk & Wagnalls.

However, I read "Shake down the thunder" first - then a colleague lent me the Plugger book and I'm thinking "I've read all of this, pretty much word for word before in another book" - He just adds another chapter at the end of each one and charges a bomb for them..
Jim is never short of opinion in his weekly column so I was looking forwrd to "Shake Down the Thunder". I was disappointed with it as it was just a bunch of interviews cobbled together, with no opinions offered by the author. A pretty uninspired way to write. As I result, I have not purchased any of his other work for fear I will get more of the same.

I havn't bought a copy of inside Footy for ages, but on a whim I bought this years Christmas edition. I find that Mr Main is VERY sensitive to any critisism. Wardy is an intelligent, opinionated and articulate person, as all who know her will attest. She is also a good friend. Jim has assortedly called her "a zombie, a peanut, a brain dead moron, a clown and a gutless wonder" Oh, and to top it off he thinks that somebody who "parties till her boobs drop off" is a bloke!!

Oh and we should all be nice fans, never should we be critical of a Swan's players performance, even if that performance is poor enough to cause the player in question to be cut from our list.

I for one will be writing to Mr Main over Chrissie, and I will be happy to let him know who I am, what I think of him, that I once wrote the letter of the week AND did not receive the promised gift. Wardy may have been out of line with her "and charges a bomb" crack, but she is entitled to her opinion. She certainly did not call Jim's character into question. But Jim is quite happy to call her or us all the names under the sun because we dare to be critical of his writing, disagree with him or be critical of our club and players when they perform badly.

I will not be tempted to buy Inside Footy again. And if Jim Main finds what we say on line so offensive he should not come on and read what we say.

              Well put Ian.

He had a go at a "certain swans forum" a year or two ago.
One of our less educated members had a crack at him, albeit not very well, and he pounded him and us further into the ground.

Look forward to hearing more on this Ian.

Sorry you have slightly confused me. I haven't read IF xmas special, but I gather from what you are saying he had a crack at Wardy and her post?

Any chance of posting a link or what he said?

It'd part with good money to watch them over and over.

We've had plenty of Plugger. Kelly, Roosy, Deisel (sort of), Laurie Nash and even Capper (and small kids one on Micky O'). Time our 2 greatest Bob's were written about more extensively. Especially the Chimp, as he's still alive and spritely to write it himself.

Does anyone know where I can buy a copy of the Rise and Fall of the Foreign Legion by Mark Branagan and Mike Lefebvre?
I have a copy of that book and would be happy to lend it to you if you can't buy one. Mike Lefebvre is a lawyer/solicitor in Melbourne. If you could locate him, he may be able to organise a copy.

Got "In the Blood" yesterday.....the paperback edition.
Couldn't afford the Hard back edition on the night of the Hall of Fame dinner.
I don't care how repitiious it is or isn't I am just grateful to Jim Main for making it.

Found my cousin's name in the 1982 list of players.

                          Correction..1981 list

Wow - I should get me to a newsagent and get a copy of my literary stoning by Jim Main!!

Thanks ORB for defending my honour (my reputation, on the other hand, was a lost cause years ago!!! )

Look if Mr Main wants to have a go - then fine by me, I have been called many worse things than that in my life so what Mr Main says about me is water off a ducks back. But peanut, zombie, gutless wonder - thats a bit lame really. I must run it past my large array of lawyer friends and see what they think, I'm sure they will have a hearty laugh too!

But let it be said that I only commented on the content of the books & the costs for rehashed versions of previous publications. I did not attack the MAN, JIM MAIN himself. And there in lies the difference. Some Journalists can be sensitive souls when its about them & their work - but they will not hesitate to stick the boot into another person even if they dont know the facts or indeed the actual person involved.

He obviously didn't understand that the "Party till your boobs drop" line was actually what was on the front of 40th birthday card I received when um, I turned 40!. so take that up with a friends of mine from Tamworth who gave me the card! and for the record, sadly with age, gravity does make one's boobs drop - so partying hard has had absolutely nothing to do with it!!!

If Mr Main is hurt by my thoughts that I considered his books are rehashed versions of previous publications, then perhaps I have hit a raw nerve. I mean there is only so much you can write about a footy club and its history. However, all one had to do is read the content of the two books that I mentioned previously and the proof is there for all to see. I didnt say what he wrote about was wrong, but most of it was the same stuff as the previous publications.

Anyway - if it makes of Jim Main feel better about himself, so be it.

Oh, and if I didnt love the Swans & AFL footy, why in the hell did I renew my membership then???
