    It's different this year.

The club knows it needs a good start to the year for a lot reasons, both on and off the field. We are going to play our best side with a full list pushing for spots in the 22 come round 1 of the real stuff.

Get the feeling we are going to give the NAB a shake this year.

        Sydney Swans | Paul Roos

Gotta love Roosy's tongue in cheek comment about his resume at the end

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Common guys, I gave you the tip weeks ago (when I got on at $41) that the bookies hadn't caught up with the fact that we recruited well and were well in advance of previous years.

Only Tankers at $51 were at longer odds than us back then.

Jeez, I just hope my $20 to $820 gets a good run. I'll spew if we go out first week against Caarton. Be great if we could get back to Blacktown in the third week.

Good news from the trial game, Tadgh, Mal, the rucks all doing well and kids showing a bit too. All players that we didn't have last year or in Mal's case out of form.

This may have been covered, but does anybody know how to get to the stadium via public transport? 131500's website was no help whatsoever

The ground is walking distance from Rooty Hill ralway station - a Blue Mountains trains doing app 110kph takes 30 seconds from when it passes the footy ground to when it rushes through the station. So as the crow flies, the distance is a bit less than 1 km. Walking is probably more like 1.5km.

1.6km from my place to the nearest pub. (using google maps)
                      Definitely walking distance.

I find myself hoping we'll crash out in the first round again. All this talk of the importance of the NAB cup is surely a response to GWS.

I doubt this year that the players themselves will let a 'slow and steady' policy work for the NAB.

It's many, many years, probably never before in their time in Sydney, has there been so much genuine competition for spots in the senior team by blokes with legitimate claims.

It will be hard to tell the likes of Vespa, Kennedy, Bevan, McGlynn, Smith, Hanneberry, Moore (the list goes on) that they can take it easy and save themselves. They all know a spot in the best 22 for them is not guaranteed and will be giving it their all in the pre-season to stake a claim for Rd 1.

Coupled with the obvious healthy nature of the list atm, this is more the reason I see them taking the NAB Cup more seriously this year.

Not in my memory have so few players been certain of their position as one of the 22 for round 1 or conversely never have so many players been battling for a place in that 22.

Other than the coaching staff resting them for a NAB game or limiting their game time, I reckon most players will be putting in 100% in the NAB Cup lest they slip down the pcking order for the season proper.

Who really is a certain starter for round 1 regardless of NAB Cup form - Kirk, Goodes, C Bolton, ROK, Shaw, Mattner, White, Seaby, Mumford, McVeigh?

I'd add Tadgh,Bradshaw, LRT,Grundy,Smith, Hanneberry and I'll throw in Jetta and DL, at least for the 22.
Got reservations about Seaby so early..they may like him to do a bit more in the ressies..Pikey has looked ok in practice games at Lakeside (altho having said that I now realise that Roosy has had Seaby and Mumford facing each other in the ruck most times, with Mummy getting the upper hand in my opinion)
