People with kids dont want to take them there and that is completely understandable. Another turn off is that hideous parking station and that puts people off too. Its just not in an appealing area.

Maybe had they have of gone with Moore Park bowling club, they could have created a real family atmostphere there and they would have picked up not only the game day patrons but also surrounding residents as well.

Oh well we wait see what transpires.
Considering the money spent to completely redevelop the old Aussie Rules club into Club Swans it is to be expected there was going to be losses. No different to other clubs in Sydney though. Even Parramatta Eels announced last year a loss of a million dollars from their leagues club and their club is at Parramatta Stadium.

Moore Park would not be viable in my mind as who would go there during the off season and non game days? Not to mention the costs associated with planning and construction of a new venue. At least in Kings Cross there is always passing traffic.

I'd love to see our fans get behind the club on this and ensure we keep our own club after so many years without a social club in Sydney. Club Swans is a fantastic venue and definately has potential as shown by the large numbers attending for away games and finals such as the Western Bulldogs final mentioned above. The joint was chockers that night. Would be good to see the club strike some kind of deal with the Kings Cross car park to encourage more of our fans to attend.

And I don't know what you're carrying on about as far as getting to Bondi Junction from the SCG is concerned. It's not that hard.
But obviously a behemoth in the Crosss suits you so it's just fine... I think it's pretty obvious that for at least the posters on this board, it's "Club Swans" in name only and is not very popular amongst Swans fans at all.

As for the transport between the SCG and Bondi Jct, It's probably OK for you. You'd get parking right out the front of most venues.

A behemoth??? Do you even know what the word means? Club Swans is a small and compact venue compared to other leagues clubs.

A leagues club and Club Swans are two different things. You are comparing apples with oranges.

All of the leagues clubs in Sydney are mini-casinos. The greater majority of their revenue is (ill)gotten from the pokies. I think there are about 20 poker machines at Club Swans, so I don't think they're pulling in much moolah from those.

All of the leagues clubs (with the exception of the City of Sydney Leagues) are in the SUBURBS - where the people are - not in the middle of trash-can alley, that would make a difference to the bottom line.

Do you really think there's room in Bondi for Club Swans - what with all the posers and all? Too much ego in Bondi for the likes of us.

I think the problem with Bondi (or BJ) is that yes, it's easy to get to FROM the SCG, but it's a total bitch to get FROM there to anywhere else. The Club wouldn't do that to it's loyal supporters.

The Swans should have bought the City of Sydney Bowling Club when it was up on offer. It's now a pool.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Yes. Yes I do. Do you?? 4 stories, garishly lit in neon and >100 poker machines is a behemoth by any stretch of the imagination.

Just had a look around the Club Swans website. It has so much damn potential and they have some really good things happening. Just a totally rubbish location.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with the club per se (Even if it is a monster.. ), it's just not in suitable location as a venue for fans. Sure it's a good diversification of revenue streams (But failing badly at that at the moment) but it's NOT a club for the fans to use as part of their regular attendance to the games.

When I don't go to interstate games, I always go to Club Swans to watch them. I love the atmosphere and being with like minded people to watch the boys is worth the drive (I live at Castle Hill so it's a fair hike). I enjoy Craig Davis' hosting and the sweeps and games they have adds to the fun (though it was better when they had injured players in attendance).
I've gone to the club to watch the Grand Final the last two years and it's a great day out. The facilities are great and so is the food and the drink prices are fair.

The BIGGEST problem is not so much where the club is located, but the HORRENDOUS parking.
The parking station is to far away and much to dangerous for females alone to walk to at night. It is dirty, smelly and not big enough and it costs way, way too much - GF day last year cost about $28!
I know there is nothing the club can do to remedy it, but i think it is the biggest problem they have.

You are right there sister - the parking station is just disgusting - if you are lucky enough to snare a park in the street you have done well. The venue itself is terrific (as I mentioned previously) but I can understand 100% as to why people with kiddies in tow wont go there. Some will say that kids dont belong in a club anyway - and each to their own on that point, but lets not forget that there are hundreds,if not a few thousand members who have kids, and would ordinarily take them to a club. But not this one. The Swans like to promote a family atmosphere -however Kings Cross I'm afraid just doesnt meet that "family atmoshpere" criteria. Its a shame - if it was in Paddo or Kensington I think it would be well patronised.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Surely they go hand in hand?

What I meant was that I really couldn't care where the club was located, The Cross, Bondi Junction, Paddington etc, in my opinion it would be far, far better patronised if there was a parking station attached with direct access. Annie suggested the C of S Bowlers Club which, as far as I know, has a parking station underneath so would have been a better option.

I think RP threw that big word in so you'd fixate on that and skim over the rest of his post (which made me lol, I may add).
