    Up There for Sydney

Hi guys, i'm a Saints man but was just interested if anyone knows the exact lyrics one-time Swans club song 'Up There for Sydney?'

Also just want to say that you guys were very unlucky in the NAB Cup match and in many ways deserved to win. I am very nervous about round 1.

Can still remember the first game I was finally able to get to.I was really looking forward to the whole experience and was set to sing the club song and THAT stupid song came on. I was horrified. No-one knew it and the other supporters hooted with derision. So glad Cheer cheer was revived.

We used to play another version of Cheer cheer as well, before it was ditched for the current version. Wonder why, there was nothing wrong with it.

Now that one I liked a lot. Especially just before the first bounce. I cannot understand why the SCG and ANZ play dookdook music before a game. NOOO atmosphere. I like Cazaley, but I prefer Cheer.

Maybe I'm alone in thinking this, but I used to love that song. Would be great to hear it played again if possible pre game.

They used to play it when the team ran through the banner when I first starting going to games in 97 - I think it may have been a superstition amongst the players about hearing the club song before winning a game.

I prefer the version we are using now - which, if you compare it with the old South Melbourne version, appears to be exactly the same, except with "Swans" layered over the word "South"...

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

and we loved it, but I wonder if the wrath of the AFL may come down upon the club?

Yeah I noticed! A very easy breezy song. Maybe because of the 30th anniversary?

Before the 30 year Retro game I asked the media staff at the club if they could dig up the song as part of the Swans history and they managed to find it and played it at 3/4 time. It seemed popular with everyone so they have decided to keep playing it at 3/4 time.

There was an attempt to change the official song to "Up there For Sydney" many years ago but fortunately it never happened.

The club also re recorded "The Red and The White" some years ago and used that (minus the part 'South will go in and win overall' which is on the original version if you listen carefully) until mid 2002.
