He has priced himself to the club that says they will take him.

Tony Lockett and Kurt Tippett come to mind. I note that they both end in double T.
Nick Davis came to save us.
I should nominate you for the 3rd person award on the Hutchy and Pickers show on SEN on Saturday mornings.
Rocca was a #1 draft as well from memory?
Suggest reading the article about the value of KPF that was suggested earlier in the thread. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

We have a KPF. His name is Sam Reid. He is a premiership player. He can go down back to help out, he can fill in in the ruck. He is not a great set shot kick, but he is not alone in that department. The coach says he is in the best 22. Sam has been injured for a year, unfortunately for him, and unfortunately for the team. It's not his fault he was injured, he has been a bit unlucky. The team are likely giving AJ five years to get better, but people want to trade Sam when he's out for one year. I don't get it.Comment

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

One Sam Reid = 4 Xavier Richards. Just as one diamond = a bucket load of sapphiresThose who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

I don't think it will be the end all to lose Mitchell but while we are playing hypotheticals it sounds like Mitchell is asking for a similiar paypacket to Reid's and I think Mitchell is much more valuable asset to us than Reid is. His run with role on S Mitchell earlier in the year was huge and I think Kennedy only has a few years left as an elite in and under midComment

I generally think that Ludwig is right but I am with you.
Reid would be doing so much better then X, X is improving, but Reid has so much talent and would flourish is our current style.
Give him one role, not all the positions he has had in the last 5 years and we would be a better team. Simple.????

Disagree with that statement. X R has shown glimpses that look quite promising and he is a far better set shot than Reid. He is more advance than Reid was at the same stage. Its not that Sam Reid's a dud, its just that we are looking to find some money to keep Mitchell, but not if he wants 800k as mentioned.Comment

Yes, X has played 6 games. He has made a good start, but it's a not a fair comparison (for X) at this point. Sam is a proven & quality AFL player. He has played 97 games since the start of the 2011 season (he played one game in 2010 as an 18 year old). Obviously he has missed all this season, and he only played ten games in 2013, but in his four other seasons he played a minimum of twenty games. He has kicked 94.72 in that time (I know, that is a lot of behinds). He averages eleven disposals a game including 4.3 marks per game. We all know he is a very strong mark. He's 196cm so he can handle the talls, and he's still only 24 years old. We've been pretty lucky with this year with injuries (Sam out all season, and Tippo for half of it were the main casualties) but
that can easily change (look at this time last year). Pound for pound Sam's numbers are better than Rohan's and Gary is considered a definite keeper. With Sam's height, his clean grabs and his versatility I would never trade him. Re his salary ; as I remember he signed a five year deal in 2011 for either $400K or $450K a year. It was a lot at the time, but now seems like a reasonable number for him. He signed an extension in 2014 I think for a couple more years.

Re Mitchell we will only offer him (a) What the club can afford within the salary cap and whilst also catering for other signings (e.g. Heeney and Mills) down the track and (b) A salary that is in line with our salary structure. Hopefully (a) and (b) are the same number.
Per Ireland's comments on SEN we don't know yet what our maximum offer within criteria (a) is yet because we don't know what the cap will be going forward or in 2017 (a crazy situation I know). But clearly the initial offer fell way short of what he feels his market worth is.
Mitchell is worth of a contract very close in value but not above that offered to our elite mids recently (Parker and Hanners) - I suspect that an offer in the region of $600K a year would be the maximum we will offer regardless if the cap space because you don't blow the whole salary structure for one player (Buddy is an exception but many teams have a superstar earner above all others)
If the best offer we can come up with is below that mark he is 100% gone for sure.
If we come back with a top bracket offer then Tom has a decision as to what drives him. Anything above $750K a year will be hard for him to knock back. But I think it is possible if he is happy here and wants to win flags above all else he may look at a three year deal at significant but not insulting unders and then have a crack at free agency in 2019 where he could still be only 27 and be in his prime.
My gut says he is 80% gone but I don't think he has made a decision yet and the club does have one last chance to present its final and best offer once the finals are over and done with.
Whatever happens with Tom I do feel we are well equipped to deal with him leaving if that transpires (hope he doesn't) but I totally trust Kinnear et al to look the club's best long term interests in this regard.Comment
