I guess I am not a big fan of being told what to read or think by others.
If it becomes compulsory to meet a particular criteria or mindset before being able to post my opinion on an Internet forum then I am happy not to be a part of that forum.
I said to read it because it uses facts to prove how difficult KPF are to come by and dispels the oft mooted idea that very good KPF can be found later in the draft or on rookie lists.

I was unaware of these facts until I read this article.

We don't seem to have too much trouble finding them and developing them.

Nico, big statement, so please give us your list of good KPF we have found and developed through the draft, lets say in the last decade or two? I'll let you have 20 years because I think your list will be very short indeed.

"Found" Rocca would have easily developed him

Hmmm, the only 2 that spring to mind easily would be Sam Reid and the great Micky O. I think Micky was around pick 40 so ended up being a great pick. All the others have been traded for.

See you snuck Newman in there. You are all over him like a Del Monti suit.
Everyone will argue about a future starting 22. I wasn't making a point about particular players, but rather wanted to show the amount of depth at the club and the number of quality players we had in the reserves. Ressie watchers will know how promising the signs are for players like Dawson, Davis, Newman and O'Riordan. IMO all will be good AFL players, hopefully for us. Our player development record has been fantastic in recent years. There will only be a trickle of players departing the club due to retirements and far more new players coming into the club and challenging for spots.

And I happen to rate Talia. If he hadn't broken his foot I think he would have played through the season in the senior side. I don't think we need worry about Talia's 'drug habit'. Getting caught one time doesn't make him an addict.

The AFL system works to bring a new take of players every year into the clubs to be replacements for those departing the game. Our uptake has far exceeded the outflow and looks to become even more exaggerated in coming years. That's why we are finding it hard to make the minimum cut to cover the additional players that will added to senior list in the next few years.

No, getting caught one time doesn't make someone an addict.

Having a dependence on a substance makes someone an addict.

You can be an addict & never get caught. Or you you could get caught a thousand times.

I'm certainly not saying Talia is an addict. I haven't even heard he used, just that he was convicted with being in possession. But to say "Getting caught one time doesn't make him an addict" is a little flippant

Give him a break, a bit hard to show something when he played one game and has been injured for the rest of the year

The Herald Sun had a poll earlier in the year and 88% thought there were players at their club who took illicit drugs. Clubs reported a rise in drug use from off season testing. 11 Collingwood players allegedly tested positive in the off season and they were not the number one club on the number of players testing positive for illicit drugs. I assume that Talia hasn't tested positive, because he would have been named as a second strike player, but was not. I could be wrong on this one as I don't know the transition rules on the new drug policy.

In any case, I think my statement is factual. Only a small percentage of illicit drug users become addicts. That doesn't mean that drug addiction is not a serious problem in the AFL and society as a whole. But there's a big gap between being arrested for drug possession and drug addiction. And given the high prevalence of drug use among AFL players, it seems unfair to single out Talia and label him as a drug addict.

Talia? KPF's? Reid etc ... all a bit off topic for a Mitchell watch thread ...

I don't think there is any doubting that as according to this thread and others here, casual drug use is fairly normal in society...

I think we should have one big Draft and Trading thread to cover everything. A discussion about trading Mitchell leads to a discussion about how our future midfield should look, which leads to a discussion on rookie upgrades, which leads to a discussion on what the primary list should be and so forth and so on. It doesn't make sense that we have a separate thread on each player or possible trade.

Call the thread what you like...

The drums are beating louder and louder.....And it sounds like (IMO)..... Mitchell will be at Hawthorn next year.

                                Yuk.

If so, what sort of trade could we expect?

My guess is...A late 1st round pick and a superfluous player.

Please don't let it be so Swannies...Trade Reid and pay the man.
