    It's a tough call.

I like the pressure of Bevan so I would not discount him so quickly, as others have. There are a few players I would be happy to see get a game (MOD, Ves, Rohan, etc) , but it is hard to judge their overall form from afar (particularly in relation to following coaches' instructions).

Aw crud. Just when I jumped on the McGlynn bandwagon too. It'd be nice to give Rohan a shot, just 'cause we've been having a run of good luck with the new ones. But I am lousy at advice from a coaching angle.

Don't know that it is necessary to bring someone in who can play the rest of the season. On the contrary, you'd think McGlynn would come straight back in when he's ready (assuming the layoff isn't too long.)

At some stage, Roos has to find a way to work Smith and Vez into the team for at least a few games because they are too good to be languishing for a whole year in Canberra. Off-season form suggests TDL will be ready soon too. Would be nice to get a few games into Currie, Rohan and maybe Johnston too to give them a taste of what is required. Plus Barlow and MOD have to believe they deserve some chances too. Bird will come back (hopefully) for the second half of the year and Meredith too might push for selection later on if he can get his leg right. And that's before even considering seasoned senior players like Teddy and Bevo.

We will get more injuries - pretty much a certainty - but no harm in rotating some of the fringe players through the team so they all get a fair chance. For a few of them - Bevo, Barlow and MOD in particular - failure to play any senior games this year could well spell the end of the Swans careers. I think that would be a shame if they don't get at least one more chance to prove themselves. Their early season reserves form suggests they all deserve it.

Hanners and Jetta could tire as the season progresses but at this stage they both look too comfortable and are making too important a contribution to envisage rotating them out.

As regular ressie watches know, Smith is a deadset midfielder.

He had a role as a small defender in the seniors last year, but he is an absolute ball magnet and knocks up getting the pill in the 2's.

With Kerr out, the only mid that we are likely to put any sort of a tag on is Priddis, so Kirky or B1 can have a nice afternoon blanketing him. I'd love to see Smith get a gig as a midfielder and play Keiran Jack in McGlynn's small forward role.

Re: BH and LK, Vespa has been playing mainly off a HBF this year in the 2's, but he has gone forward at various stages.

History say's he can certainly play that role up forward, so he would be right in the mix for selection.

              McGlynn??? Hurt???

              NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

It's early in the season, I think you've gotta give the Ranga a run.

We should give Rohan the nod this week. We need to get a look at him in the seniors, and this week is a good opportunity to do it. Sorry to hear about McGlynn.

I'd give it to Rohan first, then Vespa second and Smith third but my gut feeling is it'll be Smith.

                      ....snip
And assuming things are going well, weve beaten West Coast, the Blions and pushed the Cats right to the siren in Geelong? Whoever has come in for McGlynn would feel pretty hard done by being replaced by someone who played really well in the "soft" (bottom of the ladder) games.

I admit it is hard to see McGlynn out for extended period(s) if fit but ........ I am glad I am not on the Match selection committee.

Optimal solution. I hope the coaches have figured it out.

If we replace like for like then it has to be between Smith and Bevan. Everybody knows what Bevo brings - ferocious attack on the ball and 100% effort plus dumb decisions, poor disposal and plenty of free kicks against. Smith equals Bevo for the attack on the ball and effort, plus good decisions and better disposal. No brainer for me.

I don't think Bluey Rohan is ready, his disposal is too poor. Barlow does not win enough hard ball, Vez is not ready for the midfield rotation, but could tear it up as a small forward.

Not sure how to vote b/c I'm not sure whether the question is, 'Who do you want to come in?' or 'Who do you think the club will actually bring in?'

I'd like to see Vespa, like thousands of others. An absolute pleasure watching that kid go about his footy.

I think we will in fact see Ted, if he's deemed match-fit.

Regarded by the panel as in our best 22 for a long time now; hard to see a particular reason why he might have fallen from favour; and most importantly the Swans have a very poor record of replacing like with like. Midgets are brought in to replace fallen giants, and vice versa.

Tough one. I went for Smith just ahead of Vez, but could have made a case for several others! (Isn't it great to have depth??) I don't mind Bevo but others have moved ahead of him in the pecking order now.

Whoops. I've always presumed that the content of these articles is populated directly from the clubs' media departments. If that's true, then it's a one-on-one between Bevan and Smith, with Bevan hot favourite (unless they want to feed us disinformation for some bizarre reason). Safe to guess who most RWOers are barracking for on that one.

                                Sydney Swans
In-form forward Ben McGlynn (quad) is out for at least two weeks with Paul Bevan his likely replacement. Nick Smith continues to press his claims for a recall after gathering 37 touches as a midfielder in the Swans' reserves win over Queanbeyan. Daniel Currie (ruck) and Mike Pyke (centre half-back) impressed, but they will find a spot harder to come by. Rookie Dylan McNeil is finding his feet and draftee Sam Reid (two goals) is improving.
