AFL Canberra Round 3: Reserves v Ainslie

    AFL Canberra Round 3
    24th April 2010 10.50am
    Sydney Cricket Ground

    Ladder
    1st Swans 2W 0L 149.7%
    2nd Ainslie 1W 1L 133.9%

    Last Round
    Queanbeyan 16.9 (105) defeated by Reserves 19.14 (128)
    Ainslie 13.12 (90) defeated by Eastlake 16.14 (110)

    History
    2009
    R3 Reserves 16.15 (111) defeated Ainslie 17.6 (108)
    R7 Ainslie 17.13 (111) defeated Reserves 13.8 (86)
    R13 Reserves 19.23 (137) defeated Ainslie 12.11 (83)

    Team List
    Sportingpulse Team Lists
    • 7. Brett Meredith
    • 8. Trent Dennis-Lane
    • 10. Daniel Currie
    • 11. Ed Barlow (Senior emergency)
    • 13. Patty Veszpremi
    • 16. Gary Rohan (Senior emergency)
    • 23. Lewis Johnston
    • 25. Ted Richards (Senior emergency)
    • 26. Henry Playfair
    • 28. Dylan McNeil
    • 35. Campbell Heath
    • 36. Chris McKaigue
    • 38. Mike Pyke
    • 42. Paul Bevan
    • 43. Matt O'Dwyer
    • 45. Nathan Gordon

In: Meredith (return from injury), McKaigue (?)
Out: Nick Smith (Senior promotion), Sam Reid (?) Taylor Gilchrist (?)

The squad in that link only has 22 names (out of a possible 24) and 16 listed players (out of a possible 18) so it's possible that Reid and Gilchrist have been mistakenly omitted.

Meredith makes a welcome return from his quad strain injury, and will join the logjam of half-forward/midfield types aiming for a place in the senior side. Chris McKaigue also returns after missing last week, while Byron Sumner continues his unexplained absence.

    Top ups
    • Andrew Goodieson (UNSW/ES)
    • Blake Guthrie (Swans scholarship player)
    • Barron Hanson (Wollongong)
    • Kieran Emery (ex-Eagles scholarship player - North Shore)
    • Alexander Sneddon (ex-Eagles scholarship player - Campbelltown)
    • Jackson Potter (Swans scholarship player)

    Ainslie
Last year's beaten grand finalists pulled off a recruiting coup when they convinced ex-Crow Rob Shirley to bypass the promise of GC17 to lace up the boots with the Tricolours. This addition has been tempered by the key losses of youngster Jason Tutt (drafted by the Western Bulldogs) and ex-Mulrooney Medallist Ryan Lewis. It also seems their CHF ex-North Melbourne player Ben Hughes, who kicked 7 goals in Round 1, will be missing from this game.

Ainslie smashed the cellar dwellars Tuggeranong Hawks in the first round and went down narrowly to Eastlake in a tough contest in Round 2.

On second thoughts, Sneddon is a ruckman - the position that Reid played in last week. And if 2 listed players were missing, they wouldn't need to bring in 2 more top ups, they would just give the 16 listed players more playing time. So Reid and Gilly might be missing after all.

            Yes Ugg, I'll be there.

Guys, Ugg does a great job relaying scores and the action as it happens, I cannot hope to keep up with him.

If you have any specific questions about your favourite player, tweet it and I'll concentrate on answering questions whilst Ugg gives you the blow by blow description.

Sam Reid said at the Redback thing on Wednesday night that they have to rest a few boys each week at the moment due to the healthy list (and only being allowed 13 on the field at one time) and he currently has a sore shoulder, so they are resting him

                Swans 21.19.145 defeat Ainslie 15.12.102 ... Johnston 5 goals, veszpremi and Dennis-lane 4 each.

I only caught the last little bit unfortunately so you will have to wait for a proper report but to me, Johnston and veszpremi looked very good and bevan not great ... Good win though!!

Goodness me Lewis Johnson is an exciting talent. Hope his body holds up because he was excellent today.

TDL also showed why he was recruited. Moves well and reads the game superbly. Great kick as well.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
