Kieran Emery. Former West Coast scholarship player. Tall utility, can play forward or back. This was his 6th reserves game for us and he is now 5th on the goalkicking list with 12 majors. We could be looking at him for a rookie list spot next year

Emery is a gun. Looks like Jack Riewoldt, same build as well. Wouldn't be surprised to find him on our list next year. He is only 18 or 19 i believe.

Why did West Coast ditch him as a scholarship player? I've seen him a couple of times and he looks pretty comfortable against the bigger bodies in Canberra football (as opposed to U/18's). He also is big for a 19 year old (if that's his age), I remember thinking he was 22, 23 when I saw him.

If he keeps this up, I sure hope so!

From what I've read, it seems he's a little one-dimensional. Good grab and kick but if the ball spills he's unlikely to give a good contest.

I'd agree with that. Big lump of a lad, decent mark and good kick at goal but far from convinced he has the tricks to make the huge step up to AFL level.

That is fair to say, and good on the Swans who are giving him that opportunity to develop ... typical Sydney "athlete" who comes to the game late, without a good grounding ... coaches eyes light up, they stick him at chf or ff in club and junior reps in Sydney and let him take marks and kick goals! ... typically, if they were not on scholarship with a couple of clubs (Swans, Pies and Hawks were most procactive), they were just left to the TPP and RAMS coaches to work with (and some of their motives have been questionable)... plenty of good boys similar to Kieran have been given the money, but not much else, and will end up playing a career in the SFL with untapped potential. The new Academy System should ensure that the conversion rate is much better when the talent is identified.

Yep. However, if he is putting in this year Liz, he may get a few more tricks in his bag to make it worth it for him to be looked at. Not all that comfortable outside the goal square but that was my assessment ages and ages ago.....darting glare to all those who have denied us access to the ressies for ages and ages................he could have stepped up big time since then.

Super chuffed to see Reid living up to my and ORB's hype.

There's a certain 28yo rookie at Geelong who had that sort of thing said about him up until this year......

Five goals for TDL, four for Johnston, Vesz and Johnston in the best. Some good signs there.

Big big difference between a guy who has led the goalkicking in the VFL for a number of years and a 18 year old kid playing in the Sydney AFL.

Yes but until recently the chances of a podsiadly making a list at his age would be ten times less likely than an 19 year old who has the same shortfalls.

I wouldn't say those are Emery's only shortfalls, he's a long way from where Pods is at the moment.
