We're not really sycophants - we just think he's a better coach than you and some of us get tired of sniping from the sidelines at a coach who is just trying to do his job of winning games of football while introducing younger players at a rate that won't break them or their spirit. Not rocket science really - but I guess it's easier to whine about how he's dudding the players, the fans - and probably the city of Sydney - than to offer balanced commentary.

Roos took the unusual step this week of not reviewing the loss to the Tigers, prefer not to ''dwell'' on it and focus on the eight games between now and the finals."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

That article is concerning at a number of levels. Sounds like the players' moral is not good at the moment. But I guess when the coach picks players on 'seniority' not form, mocks the team from the boundary line and adopts a generally negative and cynical attitude, that is what happens.

Who is the form player that hasn't been selected?
Interestingly, I don't think anyone disputes the view that any one developing player in and of themselves will automatically cost us the game. It's the combination of too many of them at once and selecting them when their reserves form isn't demanding it that has many finding the selection policy this week reasonable. In addition, secret footballing business like training and other team requirements (attitude, homework, nutrition whatever) will also impact a players position in the waiting line for seniors. As none us here have any intimate knowledge of those things it's hard to judge who is most deserving over and above what we can actually observe in terms of reserves form or seniors form. I think you could have pulled the names out of a hat this week in terms of form to come up with the 22. Given the state of our squad, Bevo and Richards make sense as they do know and have more experience with the game plan and structures etc.
Discover another Hannebery? Well we could. But the fact that they aren't playing seniors already would indicate to me that there isn't anyone right now whose undeniable and obvious talents are withering on the vine right in front of our eyes. Vesz has clearly turned a good corner this year.I'm so pleased to see him getting himself on as an emergency regularly which tells us he is building his aerobic fitness and doing all the right things.
TDL has retained his spot, Bevo has not been selected over Smith at all this year nor Richards over Rohan and White has been persisted with. We've seen Jetta get a long long loooooonnnngggg go in the seniors without having an impact.
I would have thought that indicative of a change in selection policy over previous years.Last edited by Lucky Knickers; 10 July 2010, 11:27 AM.Comment

"You could level the same at those who think we should play every player under 22 each week irrespective of our opposition, injuries, form, ladder position, venue, knowledge of the game plan and structures, set moves etc."
You could indeed if you could actually find someone who has EVER recommended the above. By misrepresenting those who you oppose you blow your own credibility.Comment

I think there is a HUGE difference between 8th and 9th. The more finals experience for our boys the better."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

I am not calling for wholesale changes, but reward for effort and merit. I think Vez will not be at the club next year, which is a pity. Maybe Roos just struggles to know how to manage 'brash / confident' players and prefers the the humble type. Maybe he thinks the best approach is to make these young brash confident players work harder for the same thing. I struggly to understand why Bevan has been getting games ahead of anyone let alone Veszpremi and or Johnston. I confess to not be a reserves watcher, but based on 'bests' lists and goals kicked, the former should have spent more in the firsts and the latter should have been given a run by now but instead was pipped by Playfair, who was supposedly the 'kiddy captain' in the reserves and had performed at a lesser level.
